Something similar happened to me once. After a day’s work at meetings in AZ, I went out to hike. Parked at one of the little lots at the hiking area and set out. Was heading back to the car, when I decided the desert sunset would be great to watch from a nearby hill, so I climbed up. Hiked back down in the fading twilight; somehow got turned around, because I couldn’t find the correct little lot (and the ones I did find were empty). I had one of the early flip cellphones, but it was before the days of GPS and marking parking (and I also had just an old regular car key, no fob to beep). After a few iterations, and before I had to really think about calling for help, I found my rental car.

I once asked for a napkin in a London restaurant and got a shocked look from the server.
