The firearm itself, being an inanimate object, will do nothing by itself. The gun did not kill anyone. All of the problems shown here added up to an individual using the gun as a tool to punish others for thier problems. Acesss to guns, large cap magazines, etc etc are part of the problem, but they are not the only problem.

To “PlainBill” – “No restrictions on where a gun can be carried” – Sandy Hook is a Gun-Free Zone – the shooter didn’t care.

To “misterdantes” – “Do you realise that Dickens is part of the popular culture?” Yes, Dickens is part of the popular culture, but not nearly as much as “Grand Theft Auto” et al. To fully determine how popular something is in pop culture is, look at sales – who sells more these days, Great Literature or first person shooter Video games?

Everyone wants to blame the NRA for all these problems. How rediculous is it to blame a national organization for the actions of an individual? Wayne LaPierrie (Head of the NRA) was not standing behind the idiot at Sandy Hook – he had not even known that twit existed before that day. Personally, when a idiot does something criminal, I blame that person, for they, not some outside organization, they are the one who did the deed.

The discussion on gun rights will be long and tiring for everyone. Unless we can all agree, here at the start, to take rhetoric out of the discussion and focus on clear, logical thought, the discussion will become ugly and destructive to this country. Don’t keep yelling your opinion to the world, offer clear and helpful ideas and solutions.

I haven’t looked at the futures market lately, but I do know that in my local markets, gasoline and diesel fuel is up nearly 25 cents per gallon in the week since Issac got near the Louisiana coast. I’m just hoping that the prices will fall as fast as they went up :)

Having talked to a gunshop owner, markup on that accessory is only about 18%. There is not much margin in them.

The Colorado nutcase bought 2 of his weapons legally at a Bass Pro Shop in Denver, one at Gander Mountain legally in Thornton, Co and one legally at Gander Mountain in Aurora, Co. Each purchase included a background check that he passed. You cannot purchase modern weapons online and Oliphant is wrong to imply that you can.

Holy Mother of Pearl – ENOUGH ALREADY – everywhere else in life, if you want to do something, you have to have ID. Cash a check, buy a beer, get some smokes, get a speeding ticket, go to the doctor, etc etc ad naseum. If you want to vote, when at the polls, just show that you are eligible to vote. Simple. Enough of this stupid rhetoric – grow up already.

Methinks TJ is about to get his walking papers from the house; Toni may not want to get married, but she might want to move in With Brad :)

You’re right, the Uncle who left the pistol unsecured should be jailed for this as well.

It seems to me that everyone has forgotten what happens to fallen American Soldiers and Marines that the Taliban/Al Queda/freedom figher/mujahadeen et al get ahold of. They take our “sacred dead” and strip them naked, drag them through the streets behind some truck, mutilate and emasculate them, then hang them upside down from buildings and bridges. Nobody seems to get upset or outraged enough to spout vitriole across the internet about that . . . . .

Don’t condemn an American Soldier for a bullshat unimportant thing as this, especially when you don’t have the balls to join him in Service to your Country.
