I grew up to fly a different sort of “kite”. I flew hang-gliders for a few years. Now THAT is a BLAST! It’s really cool to fly a couple hundred feet over a farmhouse below and holler at some kids and watch them looking around to figure out where the voice is coming from. That and also flying high enough that I could watch vultures soaring beneath me. Fun times!
A memorable kite event I did once or twice was flying multiple (5 or 6) kites linked together one after another on the same string. The first one up in this lineup got pretty high up there. You have to have stronger than usual string though as there’s a lot of pull on it with that many kites up there.
I looked at some videos of both Mary Flower (guitar) and Mean Mary (banjo). They are each very very skillful and enjoyable. Wonderful picking. Mean Mary has a beautiful singing voice.
At an airport earlier this year I forgot I had my Old Timer knife in my pocket when I had already checked my baggage and was going through the security scan. Rather than throw it away, I found a man coming through the gate having just gotten off his flight. I gave him my knife. He said he didn’t use a pocket knife. I said, “Well then, please feel free to pass it along to someone who will like it.”As it was I had a newer “Old Timer” pocket knife at home, plus several other kinds to choose from.
I never knew that was part of what is required. I was in Boy Scouts and did great with swimming, but did not aspire to being a lifeguard. Quite impressive what you accomplished!
I’m like Durak. To me pennies and cents are the same thing. I live in Arkansas. The two words might be used differently: “You owe two dollars and fifty seven cents.” Okay, here’s two dollars, two quarters, and two pennies."Also, it would seem weird to me if Red said, “I stuffed my swimming trunks full of socks filled with cents.”I am also curious, Calvinist1966, where do you live that this is different?
Imagine,… do you not know what a “tape measure” is? It is a rather common item in a tool kit.
