In my first year zoology lab (undergrad) we had to hook up some pithed frogs to electrodes and measure the response in the leg muscles to varying electrical impulses. After the lab was done, we put on “Stayin’ Alive” and twisted the input knobs in time with the song. The TA just shook her head….

Add to that, I don’t think many soldiers would be too keen on taking out their fellow citizens. Scare your government, vote them ALL out, and over time — don’t be afraid to vote for and ELECT someone other than a Republican or Democrat – that will scare your politicians more than anything else.

I never said anything about trust in government. First : we have this thing called the ballot box. Use it. Don’t be afraid to vote all the bums out and replace them with someone who isn’t a Republican or Democrat. That will take time, but it can happen. That and I don’t see the military taking on domestic civilians – most military people I know would be aghast at shooting or bombing their own people. I’m not American, but I’m pretty sure an order for the Air Force to bomb NYC would be considered an illegal order, and as Nuremburg established — “Just following orders” is not a valid defence.

It’s only a duopoly because voters let it. The old my daddy, and grandpappy, and his grandpappy were “X” so therefore I am as well.

The US hasn’t really tried to do gun control properly. Too much incentive to setup the system to fail, then point to it and look “See! It doesn’t work!”. Kinda like my kids half-donkeying loading the dishwasher and then saying, “See! It’s too hard to do”.

All people want are common sense regulations. You can have a gun. You just need to have safety training and a background check (you haven’t threatened any of your exes have you?) to get a license. Want a more powerful, or more concealable gun, you need a bigger license and a more complete background check. Oh, and please store them properly so your 5 year old doesn’t shoot his 3 year old sister….

Proper licensing, safety training, waiting periods, and background checks don’t interfere with the ability to fantasize about overthrowing a corrupt government. Use the ballot box. In the long run it works, and much fewer dead bodies involved. Hint: Don’t be afraid over the next few election cycles to elect people who AREN’T Republicans or Democrats. There are currently 5 parties in the Canadian Parliament…..

That’s funny. Canada, Australia, the UK, etc have gun control, and the governments don’t tell them what books to read. (Other than for school work obviously)

In most other countries, the common sense gun CONTROL (not prohibition), Cruz’s gun license would have been easily revoked and the guns seized. In fact, he likely NEVER would have had the guns in the first place due to proper background checks that are DONE, as the RCMP are tasked with that job. No cracks to fall into. Gun control is simply Safety Training, Waiting Period for the Background Check, and common sense restrictions on the type of weapons and magazines available at different license levels. Most anyone can get a good hunting rifle. If you want a handgun, your background check better squeak.
