Too late. The panic started when you came down the escalator the first time and was cemented in when you took the oath of office.

    The usual day-late-dollar-short story.

If it weren’t for all the what-about-ism that Scott’s been offering the last few weeks, this toon might be more powerful.

    $750 tax in 2016 and 2017!?

I generally hate the NYT, but I congratulate them on the great public service they’ve done.

Mr. Trump paid no federal income taxes in 11 of 18 years that The Times examined. In 2017, after he became president, his tax bill was only $750.

He has reduced his tax bill with questionable measures, including a $72.9 million tax refund that is the subject of an audit by the Internal Revenue Service.

Many of his signature businesses, including his golf courses, report losing large amounts of money — losses that have helped him to lower his taxes.

The financial pressure on him is increasing as hundreds of millions of dollars in loans he personally guaranteed are soon coming due.

Even while declaring losses, he has managed to enjoy a lavish lifestyle by taking tax deductions on what most people would consider personal expenses, including residences, aircraft and $70,000 in hairstyling for television.

Ivanka Trump, while working as an employee of the Trump Organization, appears to have received “consulting fees” that also helped reduce the family’s tax bill.

As president, he has received more money from foreign sources and U.S. interest groups than previously known. The records do not reveal any previously unreported connections to Russia.

It is important to remember that the returns are not an unvarnished look at Mr. Trump’s business activity. They are instead his own portrayal of his companies, compiled for the I.R.S. But they do offer the most detailed picture yet available.

During his first two years as president, Trump received $73 million from foreign operations, which in addition to his golf properties in Scotland and Ireland included $3 million from the Philippines, $2.3 million from India and $1 million from Turkey, among other nations.

The president in 2017 paid $145,400 in taxes in India and $156,824 in the Philippines, compared to just $750 in U.S. income taxes. The Times said the tax records did not reveal any unreported connections to Russia.

Usually you have to do something….

Kushner, seated at the head of the conference table, in a chair taller than all the others, was quick to strike a confrontational tone. “The federal government is not going to lead this response,” he announced.

“It’s up to the states to figure out what they want to do.”

One attendee explained to Kushner that due to the finite supply of PPE, Americans were bidding against each other and driving prices up. To solve that, businesses eager to help were looking to the federal government for leadership and direction.

“Free markets will solve this,” Kushner said dismissively. “That is not the role of government.”

Troye, a one-time member of the Covid taskforce who left the administration in the summer, on Thursday came out with a blistering video in support of Republican Voters Against Trump, a conservative group backing Biden.

“Towards the middle of February, we knew it wasn’t a matter of if Covid would become a big pandemic here in the United States,” Troye said, echoing Trump’s own statements in taped interviews with Bob Woodward for the Washington Post reporter’s new book, Rage.

“It was a matter of when."

“But the president didn’t want to hear that because his biggest concern was that we were in an election here, and how is this going to affect what he considered to be his record of success.”

“It was shocking to see the president saying that the virus was a hoax, saying that everything’s OK, when we know that’s not the truth.”

Trump continues to hold campaign events with scant regard for state guidelines on social distancing and masks.

As Biden spoke in Pennsylvania on Thursday, the president staged a rally in another swing state, Wisconsin, where Covid infections are surging.

In Mosinee, temperature checks were required and hand sanitizer was passed out.

    But masks were optional.

Troye said that at one taskforce meeting, “the president said, ‘Maybe this Covid thing is a good thing. I don’t like shaking hands with people, I don’t have to shake hands with these disgusting people.’

“Those disgusting people are the same people that he claims to care about,” Troye said. “These are the people still going to his rallies today, who have complete faith in who he is."

“If the president had taken this virus seriously, or if he had actually made an effort to tell how serious it was, he would have slowed the virus spread. He would have saved lives.”

@ John Adams 96 supra: Their “shameless attempts to win at any cost?” Like attempting to dismantle the US Postal Service to disable Absentee and Mail-In Voting (even though the president himself cast an Absentee Ballot)? Like rushing to fill a Supreme Court vacancy with the election only 40+ days away, when in 2016 with over six months until the election, it was “imperative” to let the American People decide? “Trump is the only one who handled the Covid crisis properly?” That’s why Covid is increasing in 33 states?

And, by the way, I understand a “Go Fund Me” page is being created to help poor, beleaguered Mr. Trump raise money to repay his more than $421,000,000 indebtedness that will all come due during a second term. I’m sure you’ll be a major contributor. Good for you. /s
