All those right-wing pundits on Fox News and talk radio, being utterly shameless, have switched seamlessly from denying that we have a coronavirus problem to claiming that Trump has been showing mighty leadership — and oh yeah, trying to blame Democrats for the problem.
Still, it never stops being remarkable how shameless conservative punditry can be about insisting they were always at war with Eastasia and that we’re crazy to suggest that, just yesterday, they told us we were at war with Eurasia.
For instance, for weeks — and as recently as last week — Fox News host Sean Hannity continued to use the word “hoax” to describe the coronavirus crisis and suggested that public health experts were “scaring people unnecessarily.” Now Hannity is singing a different tune, admitting that we “need to prepare for the worst-case scenario.”

Politico chronicled how the second-tier right-wing nuts — the Breitbart types, the former Trump workers, the Twitter trolls that feed the Trump media ecosystem but aren’t quite as famous as the Fox News pundits — are still vacillating between claiming the coronavirus epidemic is a hoax (and comparing it to climate change, another real and grave danger conservatives claim not to believe in) or taking it seriously and trying to exploit it for political gain.
Video has emerged of Donald Trump talking about cutting the US pandemic response team in 2018 – days after claiming that he knew nothing about the disbanded White House unit.
Mr Trump said of the pandemic team that “some of the people we’ve cut they haven’t been used for many, many years and if we ever need them we can get them very quickly and rather then spending the money”.
A former director of the unit, Dr Beth Cameron, used an op-ed in The Washington Post to say that “it is clear that eliminating the office has contributed to the federal government’s sluggish domestic response".

All I know is that I need to go get some milk at the store soon, and if the panic buying is anything like it was the other day, I ain’t looking forward to going. Plus, we have thunderstorms going on right now.
tRump invoked the Defense Production Act by executive order Wednesday afternoon and then tweeted the following.
“I only signed the Defense Production Act to combat the Chinese Virus should we need to invoke it in a worst case scenario in the future,” Trump tweeted. “Hopefully there will be no need, but we are all in this TOGETHER!”
It will be interesting to see how this story arc, written a few weeks ago when Trump and his Trumplodytes were still claiming that this was all a democrat hoax, will go. Should be some entertaining reading for the next few weeks in the City of Prickly…
For what it’s worth, I just read an article about Vo, Italy, one of the hardest hit areas in Italy. Seems as if near universal testing has allowed them to get a real handle on this thing, reducing the numbers of cases to dozens instead of hundreds.
With 20-20 hindsight, it is now obvious that we already had “community spread” before the very first case showed up in a Washington state nursing home.
The virus takes two weeks for people to show symptoms – but! – many people never show symptoms at all, but they are still contagious!
We need to know who the heck has this in the first place, instead of just guessing and, now, let’s quarantine everyone.
It infuriates me that, unless you’re a Kardashian or a basketball player, you can’t get the test until it’s already obvious you have the disease. That means you got it at least two weeks ago, and who knows who you were in contact with back then, where they came from and, more importantly, where they have gone.
That’s how this stupid bug has gotten the best of us.
