What " finishing" school did Opal graduate from? Or maybe she’s just a control freak. Regardless, she certainly gets her feathers ruffled over the least important things!

Would a better word be “get”? Also, know of anyone who says " fetch" and doesn’t have a dog?

I don’t suppose you could get up off your lazy behind and get it yourself, could you? I didn’t think so.

The word ‘fetch’ had nothing to do with it.

She couldn’t “fetch” the remote because she has both her hands full of your laundry, Earl. Don’t be a jerk and “fetch” it yourself. Roscoe is wondering, what happened?

Earl and Opal obviously are not in the South. “Fetch” is used pretty commonly here, and not just for dogs. The bigger problem is Earl is just sitting and Opal working with her hands full. Make the joke about that instead of the word “fetch.”

I will sometimes say, “I don’t suppose you were planning on making a chicken sandwich, were you babe?”

Babe: “No, do you want a chicken sandwich?”

“Why, that sounds delightful. You’re awesome, thank you.”

Babe (sarcastically) “Anything else, your lordship?”

Me: “Well, we could either do it, or the remote is over by the TV.”

    “Hang on.”

Got the remote, a sandwich, and a pretty darn good wife.

They both have the habit of choosing the word with the most potential for being received as demeaning. Har har and yuk yuk.

We use that word all of the time and we don’t have a dog. We have cats, but they don’t fetch.

I was in a market one day when I passed a woman who was dithering over a choice of light bulbs. A man appeared at the end of the aisle and gave a whistle to attract her attention. I continued my own shopping as she angrily rolled her cart down the aisle to confront him.

“Did you just whistle for me like a dog?”

I quickly turned the corner and thought, “Boy, I would not like to be on that ride home.”

‘Fetch’ is a good and exact word. It means go and pick up and then bring back.
