Or it could be replaced by a worse monster. Many of us thought talk radio was pretty horrible until social media came along.
Frankentweet is loose! Everybody read a book!
Social media, like any software, like any tool, is just as good as the people the use it.
It’s an obvious analogy of the Republican Party, giving life to MAGA, then losing control of it
Social media sure is a work in progress when it comes to the kinks therein to iron out.
Quite simply, social media is a social disease, and for many infected people it’s at the tertiary stage.
Meanwhile, maybe take a lesson from the actual comic…which can the ancillarily apply to other entities, activities, movements and ideas.
Well done Mr Pastis, Well Done.
The censoring of social media to further the owner’s ends is the worse of the worse !
Meh, social media is just people at their most human. There’s your problem.
If social media is destroying you, maybe you’re doing it wrong. Best thing is to walk away.
It’s the creation of human beings. They was like that long before “social” media was invented.
i always smile when people place the blame on social media for what’s basically human nature – people wouldn’t be the way they are on twitter (for example) if they weren’t already that way…
I call it the creation of socialism :p
No, Pig. It’ll never improve. Some people aren’t willing to learn digital etiquette.
So it IS all Al Gore’s fault! ;D
Another reason that I’m glad that I don’t have a cell phone, and I’m NOT on Twitter or Farcebook…
When it gets to be “social,” lemme know. Until then. . .
Seems it’s getting worse by the day! I was in peace before cells, and ipads!
How ironic that a strip depicting the peril of social media should evoke such a response in this GoComics version of social media.
“If I cannot inspire love, I will cause fear!” – Frankenstein’s Monster/Mary Shelley
So if we hug our SM, it will cure it?Tickle FB under the chin?Give Twitter a peck on the cheek?Be an instant Gram to Instagram?
There have been some interesting things written on the effects of social media and technological communication overall. The human brain evolved to search out and take various stimuli as acutely as possible. As technology has evolved so much stimuli comes in that we literally crave it. Also makes it diffcult to sort out, and we seek those stimuli which please us. It literally comes down to too much information.
Social media has been with humanity for eons. Just a bit slower. Quite a bit. But just as crazy at times. Humanity is crazy at times, and prone to buying into and spreading lies. Always been that way. Just quicker about it now.
She knows, but some people can’t let go.
Our company had an intranet and “social” media in the 80s. Much of it was groundbreaking, but employees were fired for some of the stuff that went on.
‘Frankenstein’ has always been a cautionary tale of not just technology but also of anything else going wrong. You know what they say about good intentions.
Pig, I wish I had your optimism. Maybe it will get better…like the 2021 St. Louis Cardinals.
Perfect example and it won’t get better with age……
Politics: The art of pissing people off.
Yup, some moron just had to go political. Too bad political derangement isn’t fatal.
Wonder why all “creatures” seem to turn out evil. Can’t we have one that maybe goes around giving out breath mints?
Einstein once said 90% of humans are stupid. Obviously most, but not all, social media belongs to the 90%
I for one, appreciate all the accurate and politically unbiased information I am able to glean from social media. And thank goodness their creators make sure to keep them strictly apolitical and offer fair and equal representation for everyone! (If you’re done laughing, be sure to give me a “like.”)
Commenting here is social media. You don’t need Facebook or Twitter. Under another cartoon, we were discussing the great comment places and the ones to avoid because of the toxic environment. Some are like a coffee klatch where we meet each day. I won’t mention any names because the last time I did the trolls crept in for a while.
HEE heeeee. That last line is hilarious
Last panel: Are you sure of that, Pig? Unfortunately, I’m not!
The book version monster was actually very articulate and intelligent, and only really hated Victor Frankenstein for creating him. But the comic is still funny anyway. 9/10 would read again.
Is this cartoon implying that Mark does his part to ensure that lies and disinformation continue to be spread on his medium?
It hasn’t… social media improved, that is.
Are you, Pig, are you?!
It is being able to hide behind a false identity and spew hateful comments that is the real problem.
That’s what you get by buying a Walmart brain. And I’d think Bring Back “The Good Place” would have gotten 78-million hits. Unless they have wised up. NAAAW.
Pig reminds me of the Democratic party.
Frankensteins modern life
Let’s name it MarkZ.
It had such possibilities, so much might have been done to improve the human condition. Then people turned it on and actually used it. Welcome to another self-inflicted Heck.
Frankenstein’s Monster gets a lot of bad press, but really he was just misunderstood and accident-prone (throwing sweet little Maria into the lake and expecting her to float, for example). On the other hand, Cartoon-Boy’s Monster is evil at heart. —Not unlike Social Media….
I have to laugh a little at the people who whine about “Why do you have to bring politics and etc into the comics?” I mean, if it hurts your sensibilities to read the comments, then just – you know – DON’T READ THE COMMENTS!!
So true, Pastis; so true!
Maybe Pastis is sick of using Twitter. Yes, it’s true, he Tweets! See the bottom of this page.
