But it’s a lot safer than being mean to be people who CAN stop you. I prey on the weak and defenseless. I tried preying on the strong and well-defended, but they beat the crap out of me!
reminds me of that Elvis Presley song a bit
I hear you loud and clear, Pig.
If only truly mean people were that reasonable!
Hey Mitch! Hey Donnie ! Hey Rush, Sean, Alex, friendly FOXes, Jeanine, Laura, Tucker ! Listen to the pig. He’s obviously more mature than all of you combined.
Please forward to the elite 538
Out of the mouths of babes and piggies.
Ah, Pig, my friend…if only it was that simple…
What, no joke? No pun? No double entendres today? That’s just cruel!
But what’s the guarantee that those that are powerless today won’t be mean to us if they grow powerful tomorrow, Pig?
Yes, Pig, just like some mean foulmouthed commenters who shower filthy abusive words at you, and when confronted, they run away like a coward and hide from you and keep stalking you from a safe distance! That’s just cruel!
You know what, Mean Gene? Don’t be mean, brother! ;o)
Ah, only took a few minutes for a raging meltdown. Merry Christmas, America, you poor hate and fear filled SOB’s.
Thank you, Stephan.
Cue Elvis (or maybe Robert Plant) singing Don’t be Cruel.
I knew a person who thought she was doing needle point, but I told her it was really cruel.
It’s a shame aggression is evolutionarily rewarded.
Some days PBS makes sense.
Pig = Jiminy Cricket?
Pig just left the building.
I hope someone tries to be mean to me.Better me than someone who doesn’t carry.
What a pathetic lives some of you live. Arguing politics on a comic strip website. I guess that’s life in mom and dad’s basement.
Pig is going to Heaven for sure!
“But Daddy, why would you kick someone when they’re down?”
“Because that’s when it’s easiest to hurt them.”
You have to be catefully taught. But don’t worry—you will be.
I’m glad to see you all following the pearl of wisdom in Stephan’s strip today. Very nice.
For some people, to be cruel is the point.
I’d rather have another horrible pun than “Things I Learned In Kindergarten”, thank you.
Don’t be cruel… to a heart that’s true….
Duhwut flagged for hateful trollery.
I’m sorry for all of the folks who just had to make this political. You are doing just what this cartoon is criticizing.
I don’t think some people here are getting Pig’s message.
wasn’t this “comic” strip supposed to be funny? When did you decide to pelt us with social commentary. Bring back the gators.
But we have to take away all govt human services, billionaires need tax breaks!!
In other words: be kind to one another especially during this Christmas season.
“Animals have come to mean so much in our lives. We live in a fragmented and disconnected culture. Politics are ugly, religion is struggling, technology is stressful, and the economy is unfortunate. What’s one thing that we have in our lives that we can depend on? A dog or a cat loving us unconditionally, every day, very faithfully.” Jon Katz
“People will make mean comments. People are going to say that you’re fat, that you’re this, that you’re that. You just have to be comfortable in your own skin.” Ashley Benson
“Human kindness has never weakened the stamina or softened the fiber of a free people. A nation does not have to be cruel to be tough.” Franklin D. Roosevelt
“Only the weak are cruel. Gentleness can only be expected from the strong.” Leo Buscaglia
“The wild, cruel beast is not behind the bars of the cage. He is in front of it.” Axel Munthe
“Your own soul is nourished when you are kind; it is destroyed when you are cruel.” King Solomon
This comic used to be funny. Knock it off, Pastis. I come here to get AWAY from the political BS
Pastis: You’re a real stinker! You write controversial cartoons sure to stir up emotions and then at the end of the week you admonish us to “be nice?”
It’s the definition of cruel.
Dear Stephan, It may be time to shut down the comments portion of your strip. What proportion of today’s comments referred to your strip? Too much vitriol.
I can’t help but think that if today the sky suddenly filled with angels singing, “And on earth Peace, goodwill to men,” the people hearing it would demand “Which men?”
So the message here is “Don’t be mean….”
…and that other comment thread just descended into meanness.
Methinks the author expected this, and was trying to demonstrate a point.
I don’t know why, but these last three strips seem like a farewell
This is a fine strip and an equally fine message of the day. There are some who make too much of it (as if they’re being targeted).
I got half way through this mess of comments. It is obvious that “if they” keep us all divided then only rich who work together in the back rooms win. We are all supposed to be on the same team. Until we all stop fighting with each other over what we have heard in the news (not just cnn/ fox/ npr etc) we aren’t really going to make the headway we want.
Poor pig. It seems that his “don’t be mean” message fell on deaf ears……………..
Yes, and as evidenced here, many who are mean and rude will ALSO defend being mean and rude.
Where’s the fun in that?
Looks like Pastis felt the need to incite another political donnybrook.
You’ve heard of “dropping the mic”? Well, Pig just dropped the pen!
What is this? Pig, becoming a wise Comic Guru?!
Who really wrote this strip, Cartoon-Boy?
Wow, guys. Pig essentially stated the Golden Rule – what most of our parents brought us up with. Human kindness is not a bad thing. Stop trying to make it that.
Thank you, Stephen!! “Remember – hate is always foolish…and Love is always wise. Always try to be nice and never fail to be kind”. (The !2th Doctor)
I really don’t get why this is funny. Could someone please explain?
My, these strips get many comments.
