And the only “hacking” that goes on involves an ax and a tree.:Today’s background music: “What a Wonderful World” by Louis Armstrong.

Is Pastis carrying on the anti-emoticon crusade from Rickard?

Most people don’t realize that the famous Pony Express only operated for 19 months before it closed down. Which makes it more successful than Circuit City’s DIVX disc experiment, but less successful than the USFL.

Ah, off the grid. Nothing quite like writing your anti-technology manifesto on a manual typewriter by the light of a tallow candle while sitting in a tarpaper shack with no indoor plumbing.

Here’s an item from “RAT-ley’s Believe This or Rot!”—-the bill creating the Pony Express didn’t pass Congress until a rider was attached!

I knew a guy once who lived in the big city but didn’t have any electronics at home, no TV’s, no computers, no nothing. he said he could hear the sound of electricity and it was always giving him headaches once he got rid of everything electrical they went away.

I also have a cousin who lives “off the grid” although that means he is 30 mins from the bigger city and just has his own solar power, sess pool and water well, he isn’t hooked up to any conventional utilities. He does carry a cell phone.

That’s how fast we get our mail in Utah. That, and covered wagons.

Well, looks like we’ve got Corporal “Stephan” Agarn weighing in on the storyline. So, Pastis… is this “Effin Troop”?(I STILL think you’re certifiably insane, but in a GOOD way.)

Funny, today’s Word of the Day on dictionary.com is technophobia – the fear of technology! Good coordination there, Cartoon Boy!

off the grid i try to bewith no running wateror electricityno talking headsno tweeting tweetsjust lots of silencewhich is oh so sweet

but then the soundof the dinging belland a voice so weirdsaying ‘you got mail’brings me back to earthin a brutal wayand let’s me knowthere’s no time to play

so the chirps and burpsof the flashing screenbrings me back to the rushof the electronic dreamwhere our thoughts and livesare rigidly controlledand my posts on thingsare continually trolled

Guard Duck is going off the grid! Away from gummymint meddling! He is becoming a “reclusive Survivalist,” as I suggested yesterday. That revived Pony Express connection may be a weak link, however.

Poor cartoon of a horse here. Also, you need a girth (or two if it’s western) and stirrups on the saddle.

Then you’re more well versed than me as I did research before I posted the lyrics. I had no clue what Cooke’s song was until I saw the lyrics, I always thought it was Don’t Know Much About History. But seeing the lyrics Wonderful World makes sense. But I prefer Louis Armstrong and What a Wonderful World. Those lyrics really should end with “Oh yeah” just cause that’s such a memorable part of it. The man was talented as far as I’m concerned, both on the trumpet and singing.

I hate emoticons, always have, always will. If you can’t describe your intention in your words maybe you should become a mime.
