Dead Reckoning. You either reckon correctly or you’re dead.
Dead reckoning is the “art” of flying to one’s destination by maintaining airspeed, heading and keeping accurate time without reference to anything else.
I had the honor of meeting a Japanese pilot who flew in World War II. He flew to those same little dots in the Pacific Ocean that we did. We had a navigator and electronic navigation aids. He had a compass, airspeed indicator and a clock.
Are these being run in original order? It seems strange—a day or two of powderpuff derby, a day or two of CB at Joe’s baseball game, a day of powderpuff. . .
I want to have faith in Peppermint Patty, but considering that she doesn’t always seem to function well in the real world, I have some doubts about her ability to read and follow a map. I mean, she and Marcie have already rented a doghouse, believing that it’s an airplane.

So does Charlie Brown live in Riverside or that’s just where the race starts? I can’t picture the Peanuts gang being from Riverside!

If this is to be a coast-to-coast race, why does it end in Michigan?

Great job getting someone to give you the perfect setup for your pun, Marcie. That’s incredibly hard to do.

Back in the 20s and 30s pilots had huge concrete arrows in the ground to follow.
