One can still listen to records, but it’s not the same as a live band.

I miss big bands, too; today’s music largely sucks sewage.

@Cooncat—I’ll sample Ray Anthony later on Youtube. Myself, I enjoy (Alton) Glenn Miller and both Dorsey brothers. At one time Tommy had a skinny vocalist…whatever became of him?

To me, “IN THE MOOD”, by Glen Miller, is one of the best songs ever.

The 3rd panel seems to be Snoopy’s “trademark”Not sure if that makes sense but he does that in a lot in the strips. Which I love!xxx

A pop up obliterated the strip before I could read it.

Canada had big bands too but they didn’t tour much and there weren’t many recording studios of any size in Canada at the time. I have a set of five CDs featuring Canadian big bands and most of the recording from those bands came from radio “air checks” (recordings of live events made by radio stations for a variety of reasons). My favourite Canadian big band was The Canadian Army Band of the Allied Expeditionary Forces, led by Bob Farnon. In some types of music like small combo work, they were actually considered better than Glenn Miller’s Army Air Corps Band.

Both Harry Connick Jr..and Brian Setzer are carrying on the tradition of the popular big bands on tour across the US..
