From what I’ve seen, it’s more like 80% are either Republicans or hold strong conservative views that put them at the far right of the Republican Party, whether they call themselves “Independent” or not. See, for example, the attached, where FIVE percent vote for Democrats, 66% usually or always vote Republican, and 25% claim to have voted for both. 41% say they are Independent, but they don’t vote that way.
