I am sure that no one will be surprized that, even with the Internet, it hard to get exact figures from the Government on what we owe, but here are the most common figures I have been able to find.

Total National Debt 11 Trillion (Trillion is a 1 followed by 12 zeros)

Amount borrowed from China by Bush 1.3 Trillion

Costs (so far) of Iraq War 4 Trillion

It’s nice we are leaving something for our grandchildren to remember us by.

Scott - I never said finding the truth was easy, but it important to be willing to recognize the truth when you find it.

As I said my figures may not be totally accurate, the National Debt ran from 15 trill to 8.5 trill, but all of the figures for the Wars were well over a Trillion.

It would be interesting if you could list where you got your 10 Trillion figure from.

As a national of a country that was a power 500 years ago, I can guess what Americans will be reading in their history books in 500 years time; looking back to their hallowed past but forgetting instead to think about what to do tomorrow.

Ken - Don’t try make Scott do any work. He might discover (and recognize?) the truth and his head would explode.

Dr and omQ - It’s interesting how short sited a self-observation usually is whether it’s us US citizens or homo sapiens in general. We haven’t been around very long in the great scheme of things and it appears we won’t be around much longer.

You off-worlders are so “out there.” You pretend to know what America is about…Unless we are overtaken by illegal immigrants - and the odds are that they too will be infected by the virus of freedom anyway- we will continue to transcend the murk and muck of the stagnant pools of self-interest your planets are stuck in - because a lot of us here still believe in Jesus and/or a higher moral law.

note how it went down under Clinton and up under Reagan, Bush 41 and Bush 43, and yes, under Obama so far.

Scott’s 10 trillion over next years claim is, of course, unubstantiated.

the graph represents reality — the totality of two branches of government in concert. You two are trying to obfuscate it. That dog don’t hunt, as they say.
