ji2m & chithing…i always heard it as ’fear leads to anger,

anger leads to hate, hate leads to war’. but violence and/or

    suffering works just as well.

“I must not fear.Fear is the mind-killer.Fear is the little-death that brings total obliteration.I will face my fear.I will permit it to pass over me and through me.And when it has gone past I will turn the inner eye to see its path.Where the fear has gone there will be nothing.Only I will remain."

Lewis and Fry, you have enunciated an important and almost obliterated truth. To put a fine point on it, we usually use “thoughtlessness” to indicate lack of consideration for others. What is indicated here, however, is lack of critical thought — sifting through presented data to sort out the elements and achieve SOME sort of rational conclusion / course of action. We as a culture have eschewed critical thought for the “just don’t hurt anyone’s feelings” philosophy and we are drowning in the result.
