I thought Danae had grownup for a second there, in the 1st 3 panels.
Stealing that last panel for a political discussion…
Is Captain Kenny Bunk in port?
An ounce of wishful thinking has more power than a truckload of evidence.
Too many people will go to extreme lengths to protect their nonfactual faiths.
Is this a parable on some election loser
Wouldn’t bet against Danae’s intuition….
I don’t think I ever want Danae to grow up.
… and … and … “What if?” …
Come back next season for more Oak Island.
Where was Captain Kenny Bunk’s port?
At least she has “a foolish consistency”
Emerson is being pranked here. His famous observation was, “A foolish consistency is the hobgoblin of little minds.”
I’ve always thought that the key word here was “foolish.” Nothing wrong with consistency when facts have been established. Or even if there’s a strong likelihood that something is so, but again based on facts.
But the seeker of truth, scientist or not, must always be ready to abandon an idea shown to be false… no matter how long lived or how popular that idea may be.
Seems she is being selective about the “facts” again. Now, where have I heard this story before. I know I’ve heard it before?
Possibly ascribable to the effects of the dreaded Jewish lasers.
“Hobgoblin” Totally have to work that into a conversation today.
In regard to Danae’s continuation: even if the map is a fake someone made it and planted it for her to find. It’s not a fungus like a mushroom that just sprang up. That makes it worth pursuing. Of course having no sense of direction and not knowing your right hand from your left will make it hard to follow.
Well . . .it WILL keep her out of everybody’s hair. . .
The message in this arc is glaringly obvious.
“Nothing could be more obvious than that the earth is stable and unmoving, and that we are in the center of the Universe. Modern Western science takes its beginning from the denial of this common-sense axiom.” —Daniel J. Boorstin
Well said. You know, people don’t really know many hobgoblins any more. Tolkien sort of left them out of the story.
Looks like her ‘army’ reached the end of its patience and left the battlefield. We did that for news channels that still tout stolen elections, anti-vaxxers, and anti-mask theory. I bet both the lost army and we are the better for it.
I see a future ‘editor’
There is an old Legend here in Maine that says that Blackbeard the Pirate buried treasure somewhere along the coast on a Island , A few problems with this, one , which Island ( look at a map of Maine ) , two , Dig on a Maine Island and you run into what Stephen King calls Maine’s ultimate truth ; Granite !
treasure hunting is too much fun to bother with facts
A lot of adults have sunk money into the supposed treasure on that island they keep profiling on what used to be the history channel. On about as much evidence as Dana’s.
I think Wiley has it wrong here. Facts are something ignored by the tenaciously faithful mind and the hobgoblin of the open minded.
Our troubled times, wrapped up in a single statement.
Hummm… that sure sounds like a BUNCH of people running around now…
Is anyone else remembering the travesty of the Forrest Fenn treasure hunt?
We in America, prove, “Facts are the hobgoblin of the tenaciously faithful mind.” Though I would substitute “closed” for “faithful.”
She’s off to sign up for the Mueller investigation team.
Some “bunk” must be true, right?
Why doesn’t she check Kenny Bunks’ port?
And thus “Q” was born…
But now she gets to keep all the treasure for herself! Bwahahahaha—oh, it’s just a jack in the box.
Facts? BAH! Facts just get in the way of me getting what I want.
NO POLITICS IN THIS COMIC STORY THIS WEEK.
The fact that his last Name is “Bunk” should set off alarm bells.
“Don’t bother me with the facts, I’ve already made up my mind.” First heard in the 70s. now an official plank in the GOP platform.
