I thought the national zeitgeist is that people don’t want other people doing something stupid.

I’d like to go back to yesterday and not let my girlfriend into my apartment so that I don’t have to listen to her call me a FAT TERD!

“I don’t want wisdom. I just want to not do something stupid again.”

Those are the wisest words Danae has ever uttered.

When it comes to learning from their mistakes, some people only learn by rote.

The spirit of the age seems to be that stupidity is more popular than ever and that failure only rarely leads to wisdom.

This must be do over Sunday in the comics. First Calvin wanted to go back to Saturday. Now Danae wants to go back a couple of months. Maybe we should have a do over election and get rid of Trump and the GOP swamp.

No, the zeitgeist of most countries is – Do something stupid and then blame social media, your parents, the authorities, anyone but you, for it!!

Jeffrey is wrong. Danae would go back and make a much worse mistake.

As to our current national zeitgeist, millions of children of White Supremacists and the Religious Right have been falling away every year, ever since they could no longer be raised entirely in the bubble.

And we are getting rid of fossil fuels. At a profit.

I thought it was doing something stupid, insane and possibly injurious/deadly and then posting it on YouTube for the whole world to see how stupid you are.

I think that this is a lot of peoples’ fantasy: go back in time and undo some stupid mistake.

I have made mistakes that have cost me money, caused me embarrassment, lost me jobs and have otherwise caused me grief. If I had to go back and live through those things again, I would. What I wish I could change were those times when I could have been more charitable and loving with people and wasn’t.

Well, I guess I’ll just have to try this going forward.

Definition: "The Zeitgeist is a concept from 18th- to 19th-century German philosophy, translated as “spirit of the age” or “spirit of the times”. It refers to an invisible agent or force dominating the characteristics of a given epoch in world history." Application here seems a bit sketchy. ;-)

If we gain wisdom by making stupid mistakes why are the truly stupid among us not the wisest among us?

According to the DOD, 71% of Americans between the ages of 17 and 24 are ineligible to serve in the US Army due to: 1. poor education; 2. obesity; 3. record of crime or drug abuse; 4. mental health challenges. (CSM Daily, 4/26/19; https://www.strongnation.org/articles/414-map-many-young-americans-are-ineligible-to-serve-in-the-military)

At least Danae won’t have to serve in the military. . .

(I posted the above on the Doonesbury board, too.)
