I think he’s likely to discover something he wasn’t looking for – or maybe it’ll find him.

And when he reaches the end, he finds a Wiley Bear BBQ.

It’s looking good so far. There aren’t any Wiley bears hiding behind the trees or sign.

He’s looking for a lame, half-blind camel, carrying, honey, butter, and a pregnant woman?

I’d call this one the other bookend to the “Stare at your phone Nature Trail” toon back on back on May 24th except maybe for this one, Wiley could have just had the guy ditch the smartphone instead of the car (though I’d be more of the latter than the former)

But remember, you can’t have serendipity without a dip.

You know, it’s scary, but if you just let go, the world will continue to turn without you.

If you go down in the woods today, you’re sure of a big surprise

If you go down in the woods today, you’d better go in disguise…

I get the impression that GPS goofs rarely lead to happy surprises.

Am I the only one bothered by the car being on the wrong side of the road? Or am I being too North American?

I know the fun word of the day is supposed to be “serendipity”, but there’s a bit of “pareidolia” here as well. That’s where you see patterns that aren’t really there, or interpret them as something they’re not.

42 years ago, I had a chance to join a four-week expedition to South America but I had just started a new job. I asked my boss, he passed it up the line, and (mirabilu dicte) my request for time off was granted. Then the trip fell through …… but the woman who ran a restaurant next door was from Sri Lanka and she had been after me to visit there so that is what I did.

Sri Lanka has had many names over the centuries: Ceylon, Taprobane, and of course Serendib.

    I found Serendib by serendipity.
