Maybe he can find some whirled peas in the produce department.

Actually, it sounds like he’s starving, and his body is shutting down to save energy.

What a great idea for a science fiction story. Maybe I’ll try a series like this:- First story. Extreme drought causes a lack of the corn that is (inadvisably) fed to beef cattle, along with numerous chemicals, to create extra-fatty, very tender, high cost beef. Beef cattle vanishes from menus across the US, after a series of desperate thefts of the remaining animals to ensure beef cattle for certain extremely rich people…-Second story. The lack of said beef results in an absence of red meat for plates in costly restaurants popular with attorneys and politicians. Secret ‘beef speak easys’ pop up in Washington, DC and other strategic locations, but they are few and die out.-Third story. in courthouses across the US, mistrials are declared in case after case as juries can’t make findings when lawyers question witnesses and defendants with repect for the first time in history.- Final story. A major crisis ensues in editorial rooms and on television news shows, as the congressional deadlock not only ends, but the mass of lawyers serving in the Congress begin to work closely with the President of the US to solve problems. All due to an absence of red meat in their diets…

Um, this strip has time travel – it never had to make the leap. On the other hand, science shows that too much meat is really bad not only for the individual but for the whole planet. Since this guy had a heart attack largely based on his diet, he’s gone cold-turkey. He’s also not a vegan but a vegetarian. Different things.

Just being a humanitarian attorney should be no problem. Having very little competition would be a plus. Then there comes a respect for the law without taking advantage of the vulnerabilities of the innocent.

Oh for Pete’s sake. I decided not to comment on this current thread of strips because there was no point, but this is utter BS. There is NO link between meat eating and aggression. There is, however, a link between vitamin B12 deficiency, and nutritional deficiencies in general, with aggression and behavioral changes.

Meat and other animal products are not inherently bad for humans, processed additive laden animal products from unhealthy animals certainly are. Just as a variety of vegetable foods can be made bad by refining. This man, if he were real, had a heart attack mostly likely from over consumption of white flour, sugar, vegetable oils from frying and baked goods and just too many calories in general. He’s feeling better because he’s no longer eating crap, not specifically refraining from eating meat. His diet has changed too much to be able to point a finger specifically at meat as the soul culprit of his ill health. Objectively you can’t make that claim. We can assume he’s also not chugging down sodas, french fries or cookies.

We eat as much butter now as we did before obesity rates started to rapidly increase and beef consumption went down. Vegetable oils have gone up, poultry has doubled since the 70’s (and increased over %200 since the 50’s), sweeteners have risen especially from corn and grains have gone up almost by half, but butter and red meat are still “bad” somehow.

Americans certainly eat much more meat than we need to, especially processed meats, but we also eat too much of EVERYTHING. And to lay blame on meat eating alone, in and of itself without being qualified by quality or quantity, is ignorant or purposefully ignoring all the other stuff we shove too often into our mouths.

Since you are on this thread (all of you) I assume you enjoy reading. Here are publications you need to read if you are arguing that moderation in meat eating or milk consumption is okay.

“White Wash” by Joseph Keon“Skinny Bitch” by Freedman and Barnouin“The China Study” by Campbell

However, if you don’t believe in scientists and peer reviewed science and you don’t believe in statistics there is no reason to read these books. Stay uneducated in your remarks and keep believing that “man” is not the cause for global warming.

Yup… and what I find especially funny is that Wiley said that this arc is based on the “Forks Over Knives” story… but this arc has so few similarities to that story that it is hard to see the base. Then too, with regards to Wiley having Bob become a vegan… when I read the “Forks Over Knives” wiki (even with recognition that anything on the Internet is suspect, and wikis are doubly so since anyone can edit them), it not only stated that this was NOT a vegan diet (it is a “whole foods” diet), but it also criticized the vegan diet as unhealthy.

Its not the lack of red meat. Its the weight loss and exercise programme. Those endorphins really carry over, day to day. (of course with weight loss & exercise – if eating healthy – means lower blood pressure, lower cholesterol, no more shortness of breath. And a happy liver.
