Government experts have never lied to us before.

“We’re #@ed” is exactly what I muttered when I saw “An Inconvenient Truth” in 2006.

I listened to a self-described scientist on a late night talk show who said the current information about climate change was all wrong (!) – it’s not CO2 or methane, or the destruction of forests. He said all that stuff was simply misleading. The government did not want people to know the real cause was “Chemtrails” – those white clouds spreading out behind high-flying commercial jets, resulting in toxic chemicals raining down to poison us, the atmosphere, and every living thing.

Apparently some unnamed entity is mixing fly ash, a byproduct of burning coal, with jet fuel, and that is what produces those poisonous clouds that are the source of all global warming.

Unfortunately, I’ve heard this gentleman before and I recognized his argument about global warming on this same late night talk show going back for 15 years or so. This time he never quite got to identifying the sinister forces paying to haul coal ash to fuel depots (it’s heavy and not cheap to transport) to be mixed with jet fuel (does a cement type granular material even mix with jet fuel?). In previous talks familiar names like Soros and possibly other business associates have designs on controlling the world but it’s not clear how poisoning the air will help achieve their grand design.

I chuckled and went back to sleep. But, I know there are others who want to believe that, just like Covid, climate change is a hoax, and if we just look carefully enough, among the right ethnic groups, we’ll find the real culprits.

@Same2Ubuddy – We are not talking about “government experts,” though your prejudice against them is obvious.

We are talking about the rigorous scientific findings and life-work of THOUSANDS of scientists doing TENS OF THOUSANDS of research projects over the past fifty years, when it started getting more active.

We KNOW, beyond a shadow of a doubt, that human-caused global warming is happening, and that if we don’t do something significant soon, we will have dramatic transformations in the climate which will affect our civilization, the complex interactions among countries, and the ability to grow and distribute food as well as obtaining water.

The real problem, as depicted in the cartoon, is people like you who are unwilling to look facts in the face, and come up with rationalizations about why they don’t have to pay attention.

S2UB is one of the worst of the nihilist, misanthropic trolls on these boards, and he keeps sucking them in, day after day after day with his asinine, one-line posts of pure BS.

Like the foam-flecked MAGA weasels he represents, he’d cheer the slate-wiping asteroid headed for Earth, just to “stick it to the libs”.

Maybe he’s channeling his inner wannabe SS guard, taunting incoming prisoners at Auschwitz as “snowflakes”, who are destined for the gas chambers, crematoria, and finally to fall as flakes of ash. Yay.

Tormenting their fellow human beings is what all trolls call “fun”, and people just keep arguing at their fun-house mirror antics, as if it’ll change their minds.

The thought that 20% of the American population is either too stupid to think for themselves, or identifies with a$$holes like S2UB, truly sickens me.

Still, the rest of us has to do our part and be optimistic, knowing there will always, always be the American equivalent of terrorist Taliban among us.

The question is, are we going to squabble about who lied (or didn’t) all the way to extinction, or are we going to work on solving as much of the problem as is still possible?

The 70s were termed The Me Decade.

For a noisy and noisome minority, our times are The Me First Decade.

Sacrifice for the good of the community and the country? Heck, there are people who won’t even submit to wearing a mask, something no more inconvenient than wearing sunglasses.

The Cassandra Metaphor is alive and well among the nihilists and trolls like S2UB and Republicans.

Plug it into your search engine of choice, and you’ll see how apt the analogy fits.

Of course, it, like science, is completely ignored by the nihilists, S2UB trolls, and Republicans, who don’t mind crapping in our own nest.
