Palin seems to be deliberately misinforming folks on two items being discussed:
There is discussion on Medicare reimbursing physicians once every five years for counseling their patients on end of life care and how to prepare an advanced directive or assign a healthcare proxy to a family member. This option is not mandatory, contrary to lies, its purpose is to reimburse family doctors for the old-fashioned kind of “family doctoring” that used to be far more common. This benefits the patient by letting them know their rights and understand their choices, and benefits the physicians by fairly reimbursing them for time taken to “talk” to patients.
Obama has talked about having doctors share “best practices” with each other. That’s incorporating a private business model that could yield better results and lower costs. National Medicare data shows that some areas have incorporated better practices, with better results, and at lower costs for some disease management. The “reform” being proposed is to simply to share those better practices. It’s a win, win, win for all.
and back to Palin, if her intent is to run for office in the future and in the interim develop and display leadership skills, distorting information and creating false boogiemen is not the way to do it. She would be better served choosing a different course. And as a government employee, Palin has been receiving a govt plan option for her own family’s healthcare.
