Goal: Big Mac afterwards!!

Uh…yum?

Have a few packets of Crystal Light handy and be the envy of your peers. And a flask of White Rum if you are so inclined. Not that I would know from experience. Helps defocus all the logo-wear in the room if they don’t dim the lights for the PowerPoint and droning presenters.

Lukewarm bottled water? Has it been sitting in your car for a week?

The biggest problem with “goal-setting” reviews at large corporations is the one-size-fits-all mentality. Sure, if you are a salesperson, setting a goal and making plans to increase your sales to 110% makes sense.

I was a Software Developer who doubled as IT support. Basically, I was a troubleshooter, identifying problems, buying hardware, purchasing or writing software to address problems as they occurred .

How do you set a “goal” for that? My job was entirely reactive. The corporate goal-setting questionnaires, seminars, etc. simply did not apply. Fortunately, I had the greatest boss of my career and he kept HR off my back.

Always bring snacks. Crinkly bags of chips are the best. Share with cellmates. Beer or wine optional.

My goal would be to find a better place to work.

Whatever they provide is guaranteed to be both cheaply bad and too small for anybody over 12 years old, anyway. I alway plan to go out during whatever break they provide for lunch at something like that.
