I have a faint childhood memory of an early morning milk delivery in a neighborhood of Philadelphia in the 1940s by HORSE-DRAWN WAGON!!

growing up in RI, we had a milkman who delivered…and back then, no one locked their doors
We still get a milkman here. He’s on a motorcycle with a small trailer, and he delivers milk, cream, and cheese. We also have a breadman, too.
I don’t remember milk deliveries, but Charles Chips used to bring big containers of potato chips, pretzels, etc :)
Because it’s cheaper to take one truck to one place than send out multiple trucks to every house in town for one lousy half gallon.
That wouldn’t work. The ice cream in the soda would be melted before you could eat it.
Grew up in Newark N.J. Every house had a milk box on the porch. Also, the Brookdale soda trucks would deliver cases of quart bottles of soda right to your house.
