Wait… what? 0.o
Grand! That’s some funny right there.
I have to say that nobody in comics today does the disapproving eyebrow better than Olivia Jaimes
Breaking the walls on many levels, nice! (If you understand french try to find “Imbattable” the author created a very impressive 4th wall breaking superhero.)
Keen students will note Fritzi’s Nancy does not have the much-debated drop panel.
But mostly I absolutely love this.
I don’t care who you are, this is funny!
PANEL THREE: Nancy tosses her cookies.
Olivia Jaimes it’s a genius. And also Nancy!
How meta can you get? A strip within a strip. They know and accept they are characters in a strip. OJ IS LIT!!
That is just plain spooky.
I am new to (new) Nancy. Read it as a kid with the original artist. Kinda liking this new version better. How does one get assigned to take over an existing strip? I’ve been gone for decades. When did Olivia take over?
I have not been overly impressed by Olivia Jaimes’s version of Nancy, but this one is both funny and original.
This is genius.
Well, this lends a new perspective on things…
Are both Nancys wearing shoes or socks?
Overall, a great Sunday gag!
The design of this – especially the paper Fritzi holds up – is very C. Ware.
What is the strip below Nancy? Anyone recognize the cowboy hat?
I have basically HATED this new strip since Jaimes started. Ok, I dug “Sluggo is lit!”, but overall, have come close to dropping it yet for some reason did not. THIS strip, today, shows me, finally, that they did right by hiring her to do the strip. Today I have seen genius at work. This is arresting, especially the pure visual joy in panels 3 & 4. (Or, are they really one panel done quite originally?)
Breaking the fifth panel border.
okay, clever….I will now hate the new artist a little less…
This is clearly set in the future, as Fritzi has some oversized foldable tablet. Or did this debut at CES last week?
Don’t newspapers sometimes “restack” sunday strips? Maybe this is a bit of a thumb in the of eye of some comic page editors?
BRINGING UP FATHER sometimes used this sort of trick. Jiggs might escape Maggie by climbing out of one tier of panels down into the next. Jaimes know show to have fun with her strip in the manner of the classics. I’ve enjoyed the new NANCY.
Brilliant that OJ put http://webcomicname.com/ in the Sunday print version! #ohno
Meta Nancy is my favorite Nancy.
Wow. This is incredible.
Nancy’s left leg is “inside” panel 3 so she doesn’t fall off the ladder
This is excellent.
But Aunt Fritzi’s newspaper has 9 panels, where as my version only has 8. Fritzi’s panel 3 doesn’t exist in the original.
If only everything we did was printed in the newspaper…would we act differently?
Now the Keane kids need to enter Fourth Wall(Dolly appears to be 62 in a strip of The Family Circus Jiffy Pop grandma’s reading her!!!).
Good one1 :-D
Sure you broke the fourth wall, but it also busted you. lol
I can’t stop thinking about this comic, so I wrote a blog post about it. https://karnicky.blogspot.com/2019/01/is-this-best-nancy-strip-ever-olivia.html
A double-punch! Excellent!
Just realized — Fritzi’s newspaper version has nine panels, while ours has only eight. What secrets of the universe are told in that ninth panel?
Glad I didn’t give up on Nancy and MS. Jamies. Great strip.
Brilliant, absolutely brilliant. :)
Mr Eisner is smiling.
I think that ms. Jaimes read the Italian Nobel Prize Luigi Pirandello : the man who , with his dramas for the theatre , broke the fourth wall at the beginning of the past century .
This is the best thing ever.
How come the newspaper has an extra panel,
Now that I look at it again, she could have just stood on the ladder and reached them off the fridge in the next panel. No need to lob an unpredictable container with a loose lid.
If cartoon characters were all smart like me, they wouldn’t have to have such amusing antics.
Who else noticed webcomic name in the last panel
Bonus: I’m pretty sure the comic below Nancy is the appropriately meta “Webcomic Name”, which parodies common webcomic tropes: http://webcomicname.com/
I know Bushmiller got a bit meta, but this beauty of a strip evokes McCay in my mind…
