Neither Nancy nor Sluggo is old enough to have a social media account.
She isn’t really over it…
me every three days when i decide to step off social media and take a break from constantly seeking validation to enjoy the real world but then i end up looking at cnn for like two seconds and having a breakdown over my inability to cause any kind of meaningful change in the world and so i draw something to calm down and look at it and think “oh huh this is nice” and then realize i want to have other people see it and think it’s nice too so i upload it to the internet for kicks and comments and its like now that ive logged in i may as well be back all the way you know? and then im fully immersed in the internet again until three days pass and i realize im losing connection with the real world and with myself, and that social media addiction is a real problem but the blame for it should not be placed on teens but rather on the large and impenetrable corporations designing the technology we are required to use in our day to day life to be deliberately exploitative of young and undeveloped brain patterns, and so i decide to step off social media again but then i look at cnn for like two seconds. really good and relatable comic olivia!! 10/10
Is this a lack of tech joke? ;D
On Usenet, whenever someone in my newsgroup would mention television, we could count on ol’ Harry to chime in to mention that he had not owned a television set since 1985. (Details available on request.) I expect he’s still there, still waiting for the next person to mention… television.
Haha! So good!
Poor Nancy…. she kind of gets the concept…. but her “gizmo” yearnings still get the best of her!!!
I can truly commiserate with her today:
1. I do sincerely know and understand how relaxing it can be to be away from technology. A recent camping trip brought that back into focus for me, because I did not bring any gizmos.
2. But, like Nancy, I did think about and wonder what it was that I may have been missing.
The conclusion I reached for myself is that for me , I can be happier and more contented if I refine my use of gizmos…. and limit it to a smaller amount of time in a given day than I normally “free range” use the things. I am hoping to put that more restricted gizmo access plan into effect for myself during the next few weeks.
Hey Olivia, if you’re reading this- please don’t read this. Comments contribute nothing to anything.
She still has the monkey.
