Moving day again. We’re leaving Ohio, crossing Indiana and will be at Casey, IL for 3 days.
Yesterday I did laundry, went grocery shopping and did some online errands. Such an exciting day. Not.
I got a letter from Mike, and he is heartbroken. He is in jail in Elko, NV and has been since mid-June. In all of the confusion around his arrest, he lost his little dog Chewy. I called the PD in the town where he had been staying and they said that the dog would have been impounded and then adopted out when the owner (Mike) didn’t claim him. He’s had that dog for more than 7 years and in many ways, Chewy was a therapy dog for him and kept him out of trouble for a long time. The good news is that the way the lady I spoke to talked, it sounds like they have a no-kill shelter. She emphasized repeatedly that he would have been adopted. And of that I have no doubt. He is such a cutie and an affectionate little thing – Cairn Terrier/Pomeranian mix, he looks like a Cairn with a fluffy tail.
I won’t go into Mike’s foibles, but suffice to say he’s out of circulation for a couple of years. I have contacted the place where he has his storage unit and we will be allowed to access it with his written permission. The rent is paid up until the end of the year, and has our La-Z-Boy couch and love seat and the sleep number bed in it which he says we can have back. So we will have a head start on re-furnishing a new home. And we will be able to store what little personal stuff he has been able to hang onto. He’s lost almost everything over the past couple of years, one way or another.
We did take the cats out for another long walk, and Smokey discovered the big goat that lives next door to the campground. She was absolutely fixated on that thing. Even when I picked her up she couldn’t keep her eyes off him. I turned my back and she popped up over my shoulder to watch him as we walked away. It was funny to watch.
Good morning, Vagabonds.
