I would say this is an old old joke, but considering when it was originally published? Of course this is the second time the joke has been used in this comic strip recently.
I remember this from a Spike Jones cover of “Chloe”.
“Love is calling me…”
Rinngg!
“Hello? You don’t say! You don;t say!”“Who was it?”“He didn’t say!”
They amped it up a bit later.
“Hello? You don’t say! You don;t say!”“Who was it?”“Same guy!”
Kind of expected that ending.
