Never had any interest. Grew up with 2 pack a day parents. Hated smelling like smoke all the time and cleaning ashtrays. Nasty. My kids didn’t want to visit their grandparents because they “smelled funny”. I think a lot of women did/do smoke to keep weight off… I’d rather be fat than smoke.

Heavy smoker of many years. It’s insidious. And gets you when you’re abotu 16 and therefore immortal. You know intellectually it’s idiotic, but addiction ain’t about brains. (If it were, then Mr. Obama, who as far as we know still smokes on the sly, would be considered a dope.)

Sometimes I’ll see a handsome young man, or striking young woman, and think “lovely” — then I see the cigarette, and think “how sad”. Hard to think reasonably when you are young, ten feel tall and bullet-proof.

Back in 1967, when I was being Bar Mitzvahed, the rabbi was giving his sermon about Cancer Sticks. This was the first time I ever heard that expression.
