My husband work remotely, and has to write his own preformance reviews. I just find it bazaar.

Always write your own review. People are lazy and that includes managers

If you can do it over a cup of coffee looking outdoors at the flowers, go for it.

A lot of companies have annual reviews: that’s like trying to drive a car by looking out the window, memorizing where everything is then closing your eyes for a couple of minutes.

As a manager, I played that game, but I also did my own quarterly reviews with everyone. These were informal sessions mostly focused on resetting goals. Things change rapidly in some companies. I kept notes mostly so I could write a better formal review at the end of the year, Of course, if there were any immediate issues, I’d deal with them as they happened.

One of the most uncomfortable parts of these informal reviews for both sides was when I’d ask “So how am I doing?”

She should just give it a pass until the next round. See if she changes her style.
