My first experience with this was after the Civil Rights Act, and it was in Florida. The white fountain outside the gas station was refrigerated, and the “other” was a section of dirty black hose on a bib, not even a drain. Bonespurs comments do make me remember that experience.
Need to give the trumpster a toilet to drink from.
But those fountains are not racist.
Any Republican will tell you: the definition of racism is when you vote for someone who is black.
Trump’s not a racist, he hates everyone equally!
Growing up in Arkansas in 40s and 50s…some memories are still too current!
1969…Grovetown, GA. There was a gas station across from one of the gates to Fort Gordon. I really needed to pee. The attendant handed me a key chained to an old piston and around to the side of the building I went. The side of the building that the bathrooms were on faced the intersection, 3 of them. On the left, Women. On the right, Men. But it was the one in middle, the one for coloreds, the one with no door, that changed me forever.
No, no,no. In a Trump WHITE house there wouldn’t be a colored fountain, cause there aren’t any colors but white allowed.
The ‘colored’ fountain was installed the minute Trump took office. He knew he would have to deal with ‘those people’ at some point.
I worked in a Jackson, MS mall back in the late 70s. A wall behind one of the water fountains still had the outlines of the notice “Whites only.” In many (South) places water fountains, bathrooms, public services were available only for whites to use. I kept thinking about my niblings, who were young then, needing to go to the bathroom and having to wait until they got home. Or thirsty and couldn’t have a drink. Shameful.
Racist republicans are driving the USA back to 1950’s racist politics.
These people have no concept of progress.
Never – NEVER thought we’d see this again.
A former black co-worker related this story that happened during Jim Crow times. She and her family were light complexioned, a color sometimes referred to as “high yaller”: “Years ago we piled in the car to travel south for a funeral. We stopped at segregated restaurant and had a nice meal without incident. As we were leaving, our waitress called out in a friendly voice, ’ Y’all come back now, Y’ heya. We don’ git many Eye-talians down heya.’ Laughing as she told me the story, she said, ‘If only they knew, if only they knew!’”
Don’t know why they would complain.. a fountain is a real improvement over a bucket and a dipper.
And the “shithole” water fountain is in the basement
Hooray for the Red, White, and Blue (of the Confederate Battle Banner). /s
Mike, I think you are being too kind to use the word “colored”. Cadet Bonespurs probably uses another word in private (as things are going, he may start using it in public soon).
Need a third line for a toilet marked “Immigrants”.
Another historical note: it was after the Civil Rights Act passed that “southern Democrats” became REPUBLICANS, and LBJ “lost the South”.
Trump should just go back where he came from. The weather’s probably nicer in Moscow this time of year, anyway.
Trump’s supporters have forgotten all sorts of history- including history where people who would pass as “white” today, such as Italians and the Irish, once saw signs telling them they “need not apply”. “Us vs. them” inevitably contracts to “me vs. them”, and it’s only a matter of time before “are you white” becomes “are you white enough”.

President Donald Trump is facing a firestorm of controversy over his recent racist and xenophobic tweetstorm attacking liberal freshman members of Congress. And for good reason: His series of tweets suggesting that four U.S. congresswoman should “go back and help fix the totally broken and crime infested places from which they came” reads as if it was ripped from a white supremacist manifesto.
It was shocking to hear the leader of the free world make such offensive statements about other elected leaders. But it didn’t stop there. As the criticism increased, rather than retract his statements, the president instead doubled down, insisting that he’s not racist and that the members he’s attacking hate America and hate Israel.
While I also have been deeply troubled — even at times disgusted — by comments from some of these congresswomen about Israel and Jews and have disagreed strongly with some of their policy statements, none of that justifies speaking in such racist and xenophobic terms.
And let’s be clear: Trump’s language was absolutely and unquestionably racist despite his denials to the contrary.
END QUOTED SEGMENTS
Shouldn’t that fountain have Ben Carson’s name on it?
After all, he’s the only person likely to ever get the chance to Use it.
Ben Carson should’ve been pictured drinking from the fountain—maybe, if he saw that in a toon, the braindead neuro-surgeon would WAKE THE HELL UP!
