Wingnut extremists drone on about Benghazi. Most everyone else is calling his biggest scandal the drones. I say it’s GTMO.
I see no logical association to this and only a couple that are esoteric.
Remember the guys that condoned torture saying, ‘…if it saves American lives…’. Well?
How is a drone any different than the total destruction of Dresden and Mannheim during WW2, or indiscriminate B52 strikes during Vietnam? At least the drone has a smaller kill radius than either of those and it is a lot more selective with its targets. A lone sniper picking off soldiers one by one from a hidden location would be a better comparison and we have used those ever since we have had rifles!
I saw a picture of the prisoners at Gitmo, and I was surprised that there were so many. The current count is 167.
Must you drone on?
He would have done so if the GOP hadn’t raised such a stink about transferring the prisoners there to maximum security prisons here in the US.
Something in the billions to build GTMO, let alone maintain it, and there never was a legal basis for building it in the first place. Our “supermax” prisons on the mainland (GTMO IS “US Territory”!!), were more than capable of handling the prisoners, but the BUSHCO bozos didn’t want to risk anything that would comply with the Constitution, and international law, or Geneva conventions.
BTW, met a general who was “in charge” down there for a while , and he didn’t see any reason for building it either.
@ mikefive – MLK’s dream is being lost in voter suppression and ‘educational reforms’ that are anything but. Mr. Obama is justifying means by the ends he will never see. Orwell’s 1984 lives. We are locked in a neverending conflict with the shadowy, nameless, “them” we call Al Qayadah, as our freedoms erode.@ omQ R – succinct and true. Thank you.@ Gary – There were many Repubs warning how the war would come to America if we brought the Gitmo prisoners to the US. I still feel we should bring them to our max prisons and give them the kinds of trials for which we were once respected as a nation of laws and justice. Something of an illusion if one reads enough history, but it is a standard we should seek to set. @ Dltroutma – I know few soldiers who believe Gitmo makes the US safer or more credible in the eyes of the western world or elsewhere.Respectfully,C.
