And we won’t be for several years after a viable vaccine arrives.

An amazing maze for our leaders to guide us through. Where is our Moses?

Path is way too complicated for Trump. He prefers his straight line approach. The problem is the big gaping Grand Canyon like chasm before you can possibly get to the end.

Hard to get somewhere when you don’t start heading there.

I have accepted that my “new normal” is voluntary home confinement…never leaving….except when wearing a mask. It’s become a choice between life and death. The image of a “new normal” feels a lot like a perpetual house arrest.

Actually, thanks to tRump and the republiCON crime cartel, it is for far too many people (125,000 +) at last count. A Dead End.

So how did we get to this point? I found a review of coronaviruses published in 2015 (https://pubmed.ncbi.nlm.nih.gov/25720466/). Reading what we knew about this class of virus as of 2015, it is no wonder the Obama administration put together plans and agencies to deal with the next pandemic. What we are seeing now is all implied in what we knew 5 years ago. Those nations which learned from this work (China, South Korea, Singapore for example) have fared much better than those that didn’t (USA, Brazil, UK and to some extent Sweden) and those without competent governments and health care programs (much of South America). The Trump administration actually dismantled the programs that the Obama administration had set up. We shot ourselves in the foot with that one, as well as making it harder globally to deal with this virus.

Republican liars and deniers keep making the maze longer.

They could have squelched this deadly contagious disease when 15 people were sick but they did not want to look at the numbers. The USA has essentially been shut down all of 2020 due to anti science Republican incompetence.

And while we are waiting for the incompetent Republican Federal Government to get its act together, the virus is mutating to infect you easier.

Coronavirus mutation has taken over the world. Scientists are trying to understand why.

In the mutant virus, the genetic instructions for just one of those amino acids – number 614 – switched in the new variant from a “D” (shorthand for aspartic acid) to a “G” (short for glycine).

This pandemic has been and will be hard on everyone, but it’s particularly bad in the US. Why? Well, all sorts of reasons, I suppose, among them the beyond words idiot Donald Trump, but I would agree with those who say that there’s a persistent anti-rationalism in US culture, and that has contributed to the problem. You can find that anti-rationalism on full display among creationists and anti-vaxers, but I would also say that it’s part of pro-gun crowd and the defenders of Confederate monuments. It’s brain rot, my friends, and the Republicans love it. Stand up against brain rot!!! We need to achieve herd immunity to brain rot!!!

I’ve read of newly discovered viruses in what used to be isolated wilderness areas (now being exploited) with a potential 60/70 % fatality rate. The old Chinese curse, “May you live in interesting times…” appears to be coming true soon.

The depiction of the path to “flattening the curve” in this toon is inaccurate. It’s a straight path: testing, masks, and social distancing.

The non-compliants keep extending the maze! They feign hating this situation, but I’m beginning to think they love it.

Dr Fauci; Up to 1000,00 cases a day if we don’t turn this around.
