Ha! Every parent should do this! When we have a babysitter, I make a point of telling my kids that the babysitter is in charge and they must do whatever she says. Hopefully it helps.
Of course, living with kids that aren’t mine, I hear Maria’s line a fair amount around here. Yet I never try to play rule maker nor disciplinarian. I suspect they’re just wary. If Mommy marries her boyfriend, what will he become? All I can say is: her husband. The kids still have a Dad who lives not that far away.
I suppose most of the time I feel more like chauffeur and cook. Well, I don’t mind that. I love cooking, and why wouldn’t I jump in where help is needed? The kids are both very talented and bright- just high maintenance.
I know my kids are high maintenance……….and you do a wonderful job as their chauffeur. Although I hate to think that it seems that way to you. Your ability to step in when I’m not around is a huge help to me. Some day Lia and David will appreciate all that you do for us!
