way to complicate things, Bernice. why not just keep in simple and straight to the point?

I’ve been so disappointed over the years that I keep expecting him to screw-up between now and Saturday. Not today anyway. At the risk of sounding like Luann1212 Greg serves up a nice strip of break up roleplaying. There is nothing like rehearsing something you are going to say in an emotional moment. And I can follow what Bernice is saying to realize that, yes, Nil will know what she means. That she says this with dreamy eyes suggests that Bernice will realize that she does not want to break up at all.

This week reminds us of just how good an artist Greg. He’s pictures of Bernice’s face this week has shown wonderful subtly and emotion.

I have a feeling that if Luann hadn’t stopped Bernice we would have gotten a long, run-on sentence reminiscent of Sir Humphrey Appleby on “Yes Minister”.

In the third panel, she’s imagining going much farther than a hickey.

Luann’s right. They should stay together. And I think even Bernice realizes this as well. Hence all the hemming and hawing about finding the best way to break up with him imho…..

“But Nil will. . .” That says something, and it’s that Nil gets her.

Bern, don’t be so quick to dump Nil, he seems to be a decent enough fellow and It’s not like there’s a line of would be suitor’s scratchin at your door and pissing on your porch (it’s an analogy, that I’ve heard more than enough, men are dogs…or like dogs, take your pick)

Yes dear girl, Nil will. So keep talking, but change the subject.

Luann, remove the “Maybe”, these two are a beautiful couple with many things in common. The only problem here is that Bernice is unable to accept she’s very happy with Odd Looking Nil. Once again, Luann is the one who told her BFF the truth fearless. Bernice and Nil should stay together ♡. I wonder if Nancy didn’t tell her anything because Bernice is too complicated to handle, or simply because she wanted her to understand her mistake on her own.

Bernice, get over yourself and admit that you like…maybe even love nil. We can all see you’re smitten with him, that the mere mention of his name puts bounce in your step, flutter in your heart, and a moist feeling between your legs. You just feel afraid to realize you’re in love. Don’t fear that feeling, embrace it.

She’s stirring up drama, not looking for a breakup

At the rate this is going, Bernice will never actually get around to breaking up with Nil. The Nancy+Bernice discussion turned out to be a worthless exercise in wheel-spinning, and this conversation appears to be headed the same way.

When you break up with a boy and mention Picasso, that already creates a hostile atmosphere. You can tell by all the side-eye.

Upon hearing the story from Nil, as he exited a moderately cold shower, Jack exclaimed, “You did what? How many times? With who? And you never took off your coat and cap and scarf? I think you are starting to scare me, little buddy.”

In the last panel, you can tell by looking at Bernie – she is still quite smitten with Nil. Greg is quite good at conveying this message in his drawing.

My version of the saying: “Art is the lie that enables us to FORGET the truth.”

Don’t you think the girls on this strip should concentrate more on their studies and less on relationships?

Guess that we aren’t going to see the strip where it shows clothes hanging off the bush in the park, and a pair of legs just visible above the top branch.

So, Bernie, why would you want to end a relationship with someone that you are intellectually, emotionally, and physically attracted to? Hmmm?

Bernice needs to fully embrace love and the object of hers.

It’s like “Friends”. Sexual tension between them is fun. When a pair gets hitched, the fun ends. Same with “Luann”.

Nil has imprinted on Bern. He will be the guy she will always remember, and circle back to. IF they break up, feel sorry for his successor with her.

What about Ben? They definitely had sparks and we haven’t seen him forever, possibly he has got his act together!

Looks like Bernice has just realized that Nil has more than one attribute she admires. Is that growth we see? Did her heart just grow three sizes? Hope she realizes he is her perfect match…it will be just in time for him to tell her he’s moving to Paris.

I had a feeling that Bernice would talk herself into staying with Nil.

This storyline is tedious. Even the one about the privacy hut was more interesting.

Man, the pacing in this is glacial. Is Evans trying to unseat Mary Worth in the “speed” department?

When a girl says something like “You’re a really nice guy, and I do like you, but I don’t want to be too involved with any relationship because I really don’t have the time right now“….. That is womanspeak and it translates as follows: “I do care for you, but I only like you as a friend. I am not romantically attracted to you. We will never be intimate. We will never have sex. This is the nicest way I can think of telling you that we will never be together, because I’m afraid that you’ll get really angry and do me harm”.

Bernice slowly coming to realize the depth of her feelings. Take Two.

That’s a sweet smile on her face as she thinks fondly of Nil.

Nil’s not a null, that’s for sure and for certain.

Why does she want to break up with Nil?

Bernice should reserve final judgement until after she sees the other eye.

Bernice, don’t listen to your brain. Don’t listen to Luann. Do what you know in your heart is right.

Hmmm, seems this truth is Bernice really cares for Nil. She knows he understands her and accepts her as is. That’s hard to find; she shouldn’t let him go. The catch is she has to accept herself as is. ;-)

It should be glaringly obvious to all but the inveterate Bern (or Luannverse trolls) that number 1 Bern is hopelessly in love, 2, Nil and she are a couple who clearly should be gf/bf, they are nerds in passionate love, 3, that other than Tiffany whose growth as an empathetic and mature female is the storyline, not romance, right now she doesn’t care, that if our general conclusions are correct that Bern and Nil are going to be the new Bets and Gunther couple in love, with a few hilarity ensues bumps and bruises along the way (isn’t that love, ah young love!), then the only main character left is Lu herself, and remember Lu started back in 1985 as a sarcastic romantic, now she is, believe or not less sarcastic, but just as romantic, but totally a mess in her love life, Bern’s issue is self-esteem, I think, she sabotages her own happiness, I think Lu’s issues are basic to the underlying story and GnK are a bit hesitant to pull the trigger on finally letting her have a successful romantic life and a keeper boyfriend (I hate to say this but I think her last bf, remind the old codger of his name again) may be due to show up, but then, as I always warn, part of the storyline here is Lu’s development. I think the career thing with Lu is actually decided, romance, not yet. Bern just go get the damn boy and stop trying to crush yourself, jeez.

A lot of good comments today, mostly suggesting Nil and Bernice stay together. What isn’t obvious to me is why Bernice wants to break up. Didn’t she just call Nil and invite him over? Then there was this whole silly thing where she could only get turned on if she was about to be discovered? Bernice obviously has some issues she needs to figure out

based on Bernice’s expression in the last panel, i think she really wanted someone, Luann, to tell her not to break up w/ Nil. Because deep down, she doesn’t want to; she enjoys being with him. It’s the rigid rules oriented side of Bern that is telling her to do it, but her heart doesn’t want to. Luann will tell her to listen to her heart… I hope.

She said pretend, not “be pretentious”! But now Bernice suddenly remembers Nil is pretentious so that’s a reason not to break up. Wow.

I finally realized the Bernice is the subject of “Squealer” by AC/DC. It’s always those librarian types that are wild behind closed doors…

That’s why Bernice can’t keep her hands off Nil. His vast knowledge of vocabulary is what attracted her in the first place. Many people feel intimidated by words they don’t know. Nil meets her linguistic needs.
