Luann needs a new friend because Bernice is no friend.

Regarding yesterday’s discussion of LuAnn I think the point was T.J. was using and referring to using a French press to brew the coffee.The French press does make a great cup of coffee but it’s a royal pain. Of course this brought out the coffee snobs. These are the ones who say that if you put anything at all into your coffee then “You must not like coffee then.” and they say it with a sneer. I say to them that I like my coffee the same way I like my chocolate – with a little milk and sugar. You say you like chocolate? Go bite into a hunk of baker’s chocolate. Not dark chocolate which has milk and sugar, just not as much as milk chocolate. You’ll spit it out! Bitter? Oh yeah! But with milk and sugar, mmmm! Same for coffee. I’ll concede this. If you can develop a taste for black coffee it’ll make your life easier. And there you go. Have a good one. Silver. Out.

I thought Miss Phelps was now Mrs. Fogerty. I believe that was in private practice and she was visited by Tiffany.

Prediction: Bernice will find new career path.

With the intro of Mrs. Fogerty/Phelps, this arc seems to be flattening out. After seeing her nothing much changes.

Mrs. Phelps.. That’s unfortunate. Luann needs some new blood – and so do we.

Miss Phelps? Doesn’t know it all Bernice know that she married Mr. Fogety, so she’s now Mrs. Fogety (per Tiffany) or has that all been forgotten. Considering Mrs. Fogerty’s skill as a Guidance Counselor I think Luann should turn around and leave. The only person worse for given advice than Bernice is the former Miss Phelps.

Next thing you know Pam is going to wake up and find Bobby in the shower.

I suspect that at least at some dim level of awareness Miss Phelps already knows. And not just with Luann … the HS was named “Pitts” for a reason.

If Phelps is running this thing, they may as well turn around and leave now. After all, they more than anyone believed the woman to be incompetent at her job, so why would they want to waste any more time with her? “Definition of insanity” and all that. All the previous session with her failed to accomplish anything, but this time will be different? Oh please.

Miss Phelps is now a married woman, how will Bernice react?

What a minute, girls. Back then, you were distracted teenagers. Teenagers are not great listeners. They hear what they want to hear and ignore everything else. Now you’re young adults. Maybe you’ll listen to what Mrs Phelps has to say.

Margo Phelps-Fogarty. Either Luann and Bernice actually learn something or this week will be just another round of “Let’s bash Margo.”

Speaking of dragging something up from the past – 2022 is the year “Soylent Green” was set in…

Considering that Ms. Phelps is the reason Bernice decided to become a counselor, Bernice’s snark might very well be directed at herself as well as Luann—and gives further proof that she’s not cut out to be a counselor.

More like it was a waste of time for the students. A counselor who tells a girl it’s her fault she got harassed, because of the clothes she wears? I’d rather spend the week with Fogarty. Please, kids, leeeeave. (They probably won’t.)

Wouldn’t that tell them right away that the workshop is going to be useless, since the person running it clearly has no idea what she’s doing? She was their guidance counselor before and wasn’t able to help Luann at all, apparently.

Dunno… Miss. Phelps wasn’t exactly the best at her job. Seeing that she’s the one doing the workshop might make a former student turn around and walk away. But who knows? Tiffany was happy to have her as a private consuelor. Maybe marrying Mr. Fogarty helped her improve? Maybe she’s more inclined helping finding careers? I hope so, because Luann needs help and Bernice too and even more than Luann. Also, Bernice might be shocked to see that her old benchmark for incompetence is really good at her job and i kinda want to see that AND their reaction knowing she and Mr. Fogarty are married now♡.

Argh! Back in the day, My highschool counselor was absolutely worthless! The only time she ever talked to me about my plans for college was AFTER I received a scholarship, no thanks to her… My kids highschool couselors were, IMO, even worse! I’m convinced they get kickbacks from the institutions and trade schools they steer kids toward. If your typing now to tell me about you or your kids excellent experience with a counselor, STOP NOW! Good for you and your kids! I get it. BUt this has been my experience with 4 different councelors.

Bernice doesn’t practice what she preaches. It’s easy to transfer all her ‘stuff’ onto Luann. And they are still young. 19 is still young enough to explore career options. I changed majors 1/2 way through college myself. And through a set of interesting twists ended up in IT (no Compsci degree here).

That was a cruel statement from Bern!

Go talk to her Bernice. The world doesn’t need snarky psychotherapists, especially ones that can’t see their own faults.

Shouldn’t that be “finding work that works”? Finding work what works sounds like some sort of hillbilly crap.

Ms. Phelps was always a caricature of a counselor to me, but I hope that things look up in this arc. For both young women. Hilarity will ensue along the way though.

Bernice’s parting zinger is the meanest thing I’ve ever seen her say to her best “friend.” I hope the Mighty and Terrible Gaw, whom Luann apparently has always worshipped, will exact a bloodthirsty revenge. I wait with bated breath.

I’m amazed at how good so many of the elderly male commenters are at remember the exact name of the High School counselor. I wonder how many of you can recall your wife’s middle name, or the names of all her siblings or cousins.

It was when Bern worked for Ms Phelps (now Mrs Fogarty ) and realized that she could help young kids that she became interested in psychology. She told Phelps she wanted to get a Ph.D in psychology. Will Mrs. Fogarty change Bern’s mind now?

Yay, Miss Phelps! You’ll get to see what a resounding failure Luann DeGroot has been, and how ambivalent Bernie Halper is, vacillating between snarkiness and wry observation, along with a heaping unhealthy dose of self-importance….

Hmmmm, it is late so I might have to repeat this tomorrow. Is anyone else wondering if we will have a week of each of them being counseled followed by Luann being advised to become a youth counselor and Bernice being advised to become a middle school teacher?

Aw man, I was a hopeless case. You remember those career aptitude and proficiency surveys that came with the testing, where you tallied your scores and marked on a graph to see which area you were strong in or closest to? I was always somewhere out in the equivalent of left field, the wilderness. Never could figure out what I might be really good at, or even especially wanted to do. Never did. Sort of a jack of a few trades and master of none. The closer I got to something I enjoyed doing, the less it paid and the shorter it lasted. Had a couple opportunities with things that I liked, but the people running the shows didn’t want me to do those things, they wanted me to do supporting things I wasn’t any good at. Closest thing I had to a career was about 10 years at a humdrum entry-level office job. Just saying, if you’re still at Luann’s stage, make it a priority to find something with potential for making a living and/or that you love so much you could die trying, and stick with it.

Lordy, Bern is tiresome.

It will be great to see Ms. Phelps again. It has been ages!

I am curious to see if Ms s Phelps Fogerty’s name block on her desk keeps changing words between panels like it did for years.
