I had the pleasure of accompanying my wife at a South Korean beauty parlor/salon. She was part of a ROK wedding party. All the beauticians were working on the ladies and speaking Korean (except my wife). They appeared to my admittedly untrained eye as eerily like American beauticians at American parlors/salons. I remember thinking that it must be genetic.

Honestly, I’m hoping Shannon accidentally cut Luann’s hair or something because I believe it’s time that Luann gets a new hair style, especially ever since 1999.

I used to love going to my barber. She was petite, with short arms and large boobs. Haircuts were a lot of fun then. The military changed all that, but I married her, so not all bad.

Luann should go to a real stylist once in a while. Just to relax, take care of herself and feel prettier. I think she’s hiding a lot of tension and that she needs something that makes her feel better. Shannon may be snarky, but she loves being with Luann and talking and playing with her. The other snarky person Luann knows… no.

My hair was very very long so just a trim was needed. Well one time my mom messed it up and we were in a shopping center with a stylist. Well my mother took me in and I wanted to kill her and the freaking idiot that cut my hair so short it looked like the Mia Farrow haircut. Luckily my hair grew back in but I didn’t want to go to school as everyone knew me with very long hair. Only one very nice guy in class said “Oh Sue it looks very nice on you and it will grow in fast”. I thanked Bruce and it did grow back in and I told my mother YOU WILL NEVER TOUCH MY HAIR AGAIN NOR BRING ME TO A HAIR DRESSER YOU KNOW NOTHING ABOUT.There was a nice small hair place in our little town and when I needed a trim after it grew in they cut it and very nicely. So nicely a couple of friends asked me where I got it cut so I told them. They went and thanked me again and were pleased on the much lower prices too. Well it finally grew in and grew and grew back to mid back. I finally got so tired of washing it in the sink. I went back to below the my neck a bit and it finally grew to a good length and went back to that one.

    Okay. I’ll nibble.

One: Apparently, “so little” of TJ’s product was used that Shannon (and Luann) won’t get in trouble over it. Nevertheless, we know so many gentle folk here were so upset over the shaving cream incident that they have been begging for Shannon to be smacked all the way into next week – if for no other reason than to not see any more of her this week. Got it. But watch out for…

Two: (Really sneaky now) Apparently, neither Toni nor Luann use a lot of hair product. By extension, maybe Nancy doesn’t, either. My experience is, with women that have that much hair, they must be doing a lot with their hair, pretty much all the time. Else, it gets ratty and they chop it all off. (At least, women I know)

The only person who (apparently) takes his mane seriously is a he.

Remind me again, who’s writing this strip? Greg or Karen?

Vibes. I’ve got ‘em. Last week, as this arc began, I projected that a real date for Luann would enter the scene, just as Shannon’s extreme makeover reaches the point of silliness. Only one guy in Luann’s life would take such a moment in the right way, because he would understand. After all, he’s theater people. Yep. Methinks we are about to see a return appearance of Quill. Still does not change my long-standing prediction of this strip ending with the Lu-Gun wedding.

I am confused by the way Greg is depicting Shannon. In past comics she started out as a 3 or 4 year old who still used baby talk, then she was a 5 or 6 year old who played child-type make believe games and got into trouble. Yesterday she was shaking her booty and telling Luann to get a dude and some man action while speaking in a style usually depicted by black inner city women in films (which was an insulting and cheap use of stereotype in my opinion). Today she is having adult conversations while pretending to be a beautician and I think we can all agree that she is not displaying any cosmetology behaviors that would have been in an info video. She is standing on a kitchen chair to be at head level with Luann so that makes her about 3 feet tall. So what is she? Is she a young child, a maturing tweener who is very short, an old beyond her years first grader? She seems to be aging quickly compared to the rest of the cast, who have all been stuck in high school or even regressing to junior high. Her character is hard to relate to because they don’t consistently depict how they intend she be perceived. I wish Greg would just go ahead and reveal that Ann is her mom and get into some really interesting story lines.

I haven’t seen my stylist in almost two years. She’s too afraid to get vaccinated, so until that happens, I won’t even consider going back to her. That, plus the fact that the Delta virus is running rampant where I live, so that’s delaying my getting a professional haircut. My husband and I have gotten quite good at cutting one another’s hair, so we can both wait.

You have stated that the only issue anyone here has with the way Karen Evans is now showing ‘Luann’ is a ‘generational issue’. I would oppose the ‘Alley-Ooping’ of Luann whether Karen was 21 or 101, and whether I was 21 or 101…

When Joey Alison Sayers and Jonathan Lemon took over ‘Alley Oop’ from Jack and Carole Bender, suddenly the time-traveling caveman who worked with scientists in the past woke up and said he had the strangest dream; there was this time machine and weird scientists, etc. Suddenly the formerly intelligent caveman became stupid. Karen Evans/Joey Alison Sayers is doing the same to Luann. I miss both the old ‘Alley Oop’ and the old ‘Luann’. I even miss the old ‘Bernice’, who has mutated into ‘B’, a being that can only despise her former best friend…

So, we now know that Shannon is six years old. She seems to have grown out of baby talk. And also, praise be, she seems to have lost the scissors. While this particular arc doesn’t move me much, I suppose it’s fairly humorous in its own way. After all, it’s a comic strip, not real life. Real life consequences are a whole lot different than comic strip consequences. This arc kind of seems to be a filler of some sort. BUT, maybe what will happen is Toni and Brad bring home a friend they happened to run into on their date night. Someone, male, drop-dead gorgeous, Luann’s age or thereabouts, single. And find Lu with goop all over her head. Now, hilarity could definitely ensue then.

I usually go to a beauty college, and I chat with the students. Not so much that it distracts them, but enough that they can relax if they are nervous. I don’t remember ever experiencing stylists extensively chatting with each other, either at the college or at a regular beauty shop. I wouldn’t like it if that happened.

While we’re on the subject, I’d like to mention a barber who went beyond the call of duty and devotion for my late ex-husband (who I helped take care of before his death). When hubby was in the nursing home, this man came and cut his hair for him several times. Though I didn’t know it would BE the last time, I took their picture the last time he came to cut his hair. Hubby died not long afterwards. I hated to call the barber at work to tell him, but I didn’t have his home phone number, and I didn’t want him to be surprised by the obituary in the paper. He cried with the news. He was such a kind man.

I haven’t been to a salon in over four years. Shannon could get snarky with me, but I don’t care.
