Hank Hill—“She’s not family, she’s company. If she were family, I wouldn’t have to double knot my bathrobe when I come down for a midnight snack.”
Never grew up with multiple females either; not even the stepsisters after Dad’s remarriage moved in.
Boy, talk about setting your self up!
Most of these I get, but what is so offensive about napping on a couch?
Oh, a “dad” joke. It must be Sunday.
What are those lumpy orange things on the table that no one is eating? Yams? Badly baked biscuits? Halloween candy left over from last year?
Always, aside from walking around in one’s underwear what’s wrong with any of those things. And what could Frank mean by passing remarks. Does he mean things like “Pigs live in stys. What do you call your room?”
I bet he refrains from passing something else, too…
I bet that Bernice is wondering, “why the @#$%^& are you even telling me this”?? Though I’d also bet that she is far too polite to say that out loud to Mr. DeGroot….
Once I was having lunch with my friend and she invited me over to her house. Before arriving at her house, she called her dad to make sure he was wearing shorts and not asleep on the couch.
Great facial expressions – I loved Luann’s in the first frame (oh no – what’s this?).
Walk around in his undies? Even with only Luann (his daughter!) there, that’s yuck!
No need to scowl dude; you walked right into that one with eyes wide open
So I guess Frank did all those things when Prudence lived there? Or has her entire existence been expunged from Luanniverse?
(Or didn’t Pru count as a female?)
It would seem making creepy dinner conversations are exempt from that list.
A good influence is seldom so appreciated.
I didn’t do those things even when I was living alone.
Sarcasm AND sincerity.
First panel: A big No – No. Putting a lefty and a righty next to each other while they are eating and the hands used for the eating utensil are right next to each other. Fortunately, Nancy is wearing black – it is after Labor Day, you know. Nice save, Greg…
No one else can sit on it to relax, read or watch TV. Rather selfish, especially when you have a bed.
Nothing weird or creepy about this conversation….
If you can’t be comfortable in your own house, where can you kick back and be yourself. That’s one of the downsides of having company.
In Canada, it’s Thanksgiving tomorrow. Luann seems to be celebrating Canadian Thanksgiving a day early.
So Frank did all that while Prudence was there? No wonder she asked to be written out.
Of course there is casualness on the female side as well. With a man in the house Bernice, Luann, and, Nancy don’t go around in just undies, don’t do the stereotype of hanging hand washed undies on the shower rod, etc.
Bernice has become indispensable for the life in the DeGroots family ♡. You can see how awkward and new this is for her. All this weight… on her thin, delicate shoulders…. But if she wants to be a therapist, this will be a great workout!
What happened to the big cooking session story arc in Tiffany’s father’s fancy kitchen?
“…but now you have been here long enough that all that is over and I can be myself again. It is so tiring being ‘on’ all the time.”
Wait, what was he doing when Pru was there?
Now, don’t be selfish, ladies. You too have, shall we say, “human frailties,” and Frank’s effort at noble gallantry is not a free pass for you and your issues, Luann’s room is still a mess, for example.
As the (slightly sanitized) saying has it, female poo stinks, too.
Still believing in that ‘Man’s home is his castle,” myth Frank? Never has been, never will be. Get with the times, man.
And don’t be too quick to gloat, Luann. Next Sunday, your pop will get even. Right about the time Bernice serves him yummy pancakes with little sausages, and Frank decides right then and there to swap her name with yours in his will.
So, he did all that even though Pru had lived there? You’d think since Bernice “grew up” there (as Luann’s friend), she’d seen it all anyway!
I think Luann is saying that Bernice is the best sister ever.
Gives the girls and idea of what married life will be like.
We’ll see how long that lasts if you keep Dissing Da Dad!
Puhleeze! Fishing for female complements? Still trying to please “mommy?” Man up! Act like the paterfamilias!
Bernice will be un-married forever.
Just another form of male bashing
Frank is actually suggesting that to make him feel more comfortable, Bernice should start walking around in HER undies.
“In other words, I’m a stranger in my own home.”
But I’ll bet they do all of those things.
Excuse me, but when have we ever seen him doing any of those things?
Poor guy, his life has taken a turn for the worst…still it is his house, where man is king…………or not
Nice subtle aside/reference to Monday’s Thanksgiving holiday. Good one.
I dearly hope for his sake that the house has more than two bathrooms.
With all that estrogen around him, you would think he would have more hair…..
To suggest that it’s normal for a man to walk around in his undies with a teenage daughter in the house REALLY CREEPS ME OUT. Totally inappropriate! G&K must have a different set of values than most people. And, as usual, Frank shows his smug self-absorbed side for everyone to enjoy. That’s quite a father character there lol!
Funny. But I can see Nancy reciting this litany to the girls, rather than Frank saying it about himself. Nice change….
He was surrounded by women before, too.
It’s occurred to me that most of the Bernice Has Moved In jokes could have been done with Pru. I wonder why the two characters were essentially exchanged? (I preferred Bernice back in the dorm so we could see some of Moony university life and newer characters, but that’s me.)
Subtle hilarity ensues. Bernice is a close family friend, and Luann’s best friend. In many ways she is like a sister to Luann, but it’s the funny thing: what if you had a daughter whose best friend fell on hard times, and you offered her a place to live while she was trying to deal with these issues. If it were me, and it almost was when my daughter was younger, I would be more circumspect when another female was in house. My son was on his own too for a sort period. I probably would be teased too so I can relate.
Frank continues, “So we’ll all be glad you can move back into the dorm tomorrow.”
Looks like it’s Luann and Bernice “forever.”
In real time, it might be just a couple years.
But in our time, it might be the remaining time that G&K do the strip!
Um…remember Pru, Frank/Evans? You don’t, do you
So does that mean he was casual when Pru lived there?
What about Pru? So soon forgotten?Wouldn’t it be interesting if, for whatever reason, Pru comes back later.
Today’s strip is kinda sweet. I hope Bern appreciates the sincere gratitude coming from Nancy and Luann.
So they should have gotten clearance by now to start that storyline where Ann returns with her baby.
Looks like poor Pru has been retconned out of existence.
“Last man standing!”
Did he do all that when Pru was around?
A young woman in the post-high-school-pre-adulthood stage of life who’s trying to find answers to “Why am I here? Who should I be? Where do I belong? Who do I belong with? Why is my hair orange?” Luann has enjoyed a nurturing upbringing in a normal family; she’s funny, moral, sincere, upbeat and fun. She’s in junior college and has a knack for teaching, singing and stage design. Luann is a romantic – she believes a life of love, fulfillment and perfection is possible. All she needs is a passion to pursue.
You got to love Frank.
Man, that’s YOUR house! Do what you want, when you want. They don’t like it, there’s the door.
