They hoarded the paper towels, too! You guys, if you couldn’t get any paper products a couple months ago, it’s Broni’s fault.

I hope the hamster survives, although I suppose she could always chew her way out.

I’m not a “Shann Fan,” by any stretch of the imagination, but it would really be interesting to see an arc featuring just Shannon and her dad, Jonah. No Brad and Toni, no Luann, no disinterested third parties. Just a enlightening father/daughter Strip.

“Why?” Oh I dunno. Everybody expects that when We see Shannon, it’s going to be in the company of New DeGroots or Luann. Having a week long look-see at Shannon at home WITH her dad, would be a refreshing change of pace. OR It would make a nice Sunday, Father’s Day Strip. Besides, We already KNOW how Brad, Toni, Luann and Old Smiley handle Shannon. I really want to Jonah in full “Parent Mode,” as opposed to dropping the kid off on someone’s doorstep.

But hey, that’s Me……., ;)

All I can think of is the waste of all that toilet paper and paper towels. Especially during this COVID crisis where people are hoarding this stuff.

NO ones doing Shannon any favors; no matter what, her actions never seem to have any consequences.

Congrats to Kymberleigh for calling it yesterday about the view around Shannon’s knees.

I didn’t notice anyone who called Toni’s reaction. Personally, I think it’s sweet that she’s on board with the racetrack project, but I’m a bit surprised at how much slack she’s cutting Shannon about her method of obtaining materials.

Does anyone still remember Prudence? The older Degroots haven’t rented the room that pays for Luann’s community college tuition. Since Luann is confused about life, she needs work full time at the Fuse unless she marries or finds a career.

Next you will see Shannon TP-ing the house.

First, I am gratified to note that what I suspected yesterday (all the TP unrolled onto the floor) is indeed the case, as shown in today’s strip.

Second, I hope Aunt Toni comes up with a new game called “put the TP back on the rolls” after all this.

Can we spell “PERMISSIVE”? Can we spell “ENABLER”? Shannon’s going to grow up a spoiled overindulged adult, who’ll never understand the concept that you can’t always have it your way. And just what drives Toni’s permissiveness / enabling? Guilt? Inquiring minds want to know….

why use TP or PT rolls? Why not go to petsmart and buy hamster tubes and cages for the lil one to run around in. I know its more fun to do DIY projects. Plus the joy of seeing shannon’s eyes light up like that makes it worth it.

Shannon is a 1st grader. Probably graduated from Kindergarten when Luann graduated from High School.

That is a criminal wastage of toilet paper. And the adult now brings kitchen towels to waste further. Do Americans not care about consuming properly and not wasting? Recycling is nothing but hogwash if an average American wastes resources just like that!

Shannon was being thoughtful by putting all the toilet paper down there. That way, in case the hamster fell, it would be cushioned.

So many people are hoarding toilet paper these days. This young lady is wasting it.

I can’t help loving that girl.

Besides the toilet paper pile (which still could be used, though it is inconvenient and would take up space), I love this. Sometimes we need to play. Sometimes we need to get on the floor and love. My happiest moments as a mom and as a human are when I stop saying ‘no’ and start finding ways to say yes.

BEST AUNT EVER!!!!! This was probably something Toni dreamed to doing with a hamster as a child♡.

Toni is amazingly maintaining her composure over the wasted toilet paper here. I think I’d be wiping that kid up with it after I knocked the kid around the room a few times.

Well Shannon solved the family TP hoard problem! And Way to go, TONY!

Love the idea, but there’s going to be a LOT of loose paper on the floor. I’d run to Home Depot and grab a few PVC pipes, or large diameter clear tubing.

Great strip. Toni asserted her authority, got Shannon to comply, and then rewarded Shannon for her initiative and obedience. Great life lessons.

Now we’re really gonna have some fun. It seems like you could use empty soda cans instead. They would be easier to cut and one could go to a recycling bin and gather up a whole bunch, or find cardboard tubes in the paper re-cyclng. You could have right angles and cover the open spaces with some mesh.

I love it!!! We just saw more of Toni with that moment than I don’t know how long. Love the reaction, love the expression! Best Toni moment since…

And THAT’S what makes Toni such a great aunt!

So is Shannon mildly retarded or maybe some other problem? A child that age would know not to make a big mess like that and would talk to their parent first before just taking. It seems there is an underlying problem with her.

Toni gets to be the “fun” and “cool” Auntie, here! Hurray!!! Since Jonah always leaves Shannon with Toni and Bwad and they then are left being frustrated and stuck parenting as best they can under the situation. What fun!

Questionable choice of subject matter in light of current consumer panic. Probably drawn months ago. “Just go with it.”

Nice today that the end result is that we see Toni willingly entering into the fun with Shannon. I am glad that Greg has portrayed that caring attitude and willingness to engage with Shannon that is a valuable and important part of being a caretaker of kids.

I am a little bit disappointed that Greg has chosen to have had Shannon unfurl the dozen or so rolls of toilet paper associated with the tubes she is using. I tend to think that has Greg showing Shannon in an unnecessarily bad light. At the age Shannon is (probably at youngest 5-6 years old) a kid would already recognize that unfurling a big bunch of toilet paper like that is NOT a good or appropriate thing to do, so it appears to me that Greg is fueling the fires so-to-speak for the group that thinks Shannon is a “brat”. I wish Greg had instead made it so that Toni and Brad had saved a bunch of toilet paper tubes and other odds and ends in a box for Shannon to use for various sundry craft making projects when she came over…. that would not have fueled the “Shannon = brat” idea.

The many commenters who suggest FOLDING the mess of toilet paper in an accordion style for future use…. each of you has a helluva lot more patience for something like that than I could ever muster. The idea of carefully folding a dozen or so rolls of toilet paper square-by-square makes my mind grow numb! :)

It looks like when Toni joins in the hamster tunnel adventure with Shannon, that SHE (Toni) is prepared to unravel a bunch of paper towels to get the tubes as well, which is going to make MORE “accordion folding” necessary…. sheesh! :)

…And so now you know why there was a toilet paper shortage!

Just wait ’til Uncle Bwad comes home.

you could pry the cardboard tubes out of the center of the roll without unfurling the whole roll. The roll of paper is still good and can be used without the center tube.

Love how loving and nurturing her niece’s imagination Toni is, when Gnk does draw her and Bradley with child, and the child is growing (will Greg have retired? No old cartoonists stay until their fingers drop off, and now with computer programs) both she and Brad will make wonderful parents. Toni maybe partly because she has always taken c/o and encouraged her baby brother (she is older) and is instinctively a good person, Brad because of who raised and nurtured him.

If I were taking care of my niece and found her taping toilet paper rolls on the wall, we would have a conversation about how it wasn’t safe for the hamster and we would clean it up together. I know it is a comic strip and it is meant to be funny but Toni doesn’t seem like she is able to set limits and keep the school hamster safe in the process. This would be equivalent to finding a child drawing on the wall with crayons and instead of getting them to help you clean it up, you give them markers to use as they would work better. If she and Brad have kids, hopefully she will learn to be more responsible.

At the very least Shannon needs a lecture about asking permission before starting these types of projects. She also needs one about wasting tissue. They could have bought cheap tubes from the dollar store if they wanted to do this responsibly. Although I don’t think it’s responsible at all to let a hamster that’s not your pet run around your house and potentially get lost or endanger itself.

I wonder if people are weeping over all that former tp?

Brad or PJ would suggest a visit to the hardware store for pipe and connectors for a permanent hamster run. Because guys.

Or you could go to the pet store and buy a REAL plastic hamster run, instead of wasting paper towels and attaching the cardboard tubes to the walls with packing tape, which is going to ruin the paint. Hope you and Brad have fun repainting the walls later on.

One more day, just one more day and the hamster will live but the story line will die. Then maybe Bets will take Gunther to the point of no return.

At least Toni is encouraging Shannon to develop some skills.

Brad and Toni must not be hurting financially if they’re able to shrug off a full fifteen rolls of TP being wasted like that. It might be time to teach the kid about little things like asking permission before helping herself to every resource in the house. A few boundaries aren’t going to kill her.

I cringed seeing that TP mountain on the floor. Toni’s reaction is not realistic. Not helpful. It is one thing to encourage; this is enabling. Who is going to establish boundaries for this kid?

But, don’t throw away the TP tubes. It was the Tape that was too flimsy.

The TP Tubes are just too Short for Horizontal parts of the race track.

Oh, swell. Shannon destroys the walls (have you ever tried to remove gobs of cellophane tape from painted surfaces?), and Toni comes along and instead of being the adult chooses to become her playmate/accomplice.

Poor Brad….

Has anyone mentioned that, being a female hamster, Nana could have BABIES while she’s visiting Toni and Brad’s house with Shannon? All I have seen is comments that the hamster’s going to get loose and get lost.

All that TP and paper towels!!! They will regret that one of these days.
