This seems to be the new running theme for Gunther where he has the plans set up for a perfect date and then someone else comes in and ruins it. With Tiffany it was Leslie that turned on the anti-social Gunther. With Bets, it will be Luann.

Hey, Luann, remember the song: “Walk on by, walk on by!” And oohoora is hitting hard on “Dr. Spockirk” I hope Gunthy remembers that “resistance is futile.”

I hope “Lukhan” does not spoil the party with the wrong answer. Sadly this drink will get stretched all the way to Friday now. Oh well Jim!

Ominous that Bets would say to Luann, “Do I know you?”

Luann needs to be light on her feet at this moment. Just one friendly remark that she’s heard of Bets from Gunther – and then a generic excuse that she’s on her way somewhere.

You goaded Gunther into doing this Luann, and it looks like there’s some chemistry between the two lovers-to-be. Why don’t you back off and let things take their course?

Yeah Luann, because when your male friend is spending time with a girl you don’t personally know who he’s already expressed a romantic interest in while in your presence, that’s the perfect time to come strolling up to say things to make her suspicious. (Eyeroll) You don’t use a person’s name when you have no reason to know them, in an interaction you weren’t invited to, and not expect things to go downhill fast.

Seriously, now am I allowed to call her an idiot? Because that’s some pro-level c*#kblocking right there; the kind of thing only done by someone really scummy or someone really stupid. And I don’t think she’s screwing Gunther over on purpose, so it’s gotta be the latter.

Aw, Luann, do you have to butt in on their date? To check Bets out? Move along so they could resume their date. And don’t say anything about Gunther – let Bets get to know him on her own and form her own opinion about him without you planting yours in her head.

Well that settles it. This isn’t Original Star Trek but New Generation and Luann is Q.

After an idyllic start yesterday and the first two panels today we’re presented with a “disturbance in the farce” here in the third panel. Luann’s inserting herself so early in the meet and greet is one aspect. The second is Bets’ somewhat abrupt and unfriendly response. What is Greg leading us into for tomorrow? An early indication into Bets personality?

I’d say never sit down with a guy wearing pig’s ears, but then look at the strange get-ups people wear at pro football games. Beam off Luann, and let the Force be with them.

I just can’t wait for the TREKCONNEK date; if they ever get there. How Trek-nerdy will Greg get? Gunthie may have to contend with any number of Bets’ previous friends. Hope she’s not coming off a Worf-like relationship and there’s a CONNEK encounter.

Greg’s already introduced Luann into Gunther’s date mix. How soon will Les inject himself?

Great see saw her and now she should just quietly turn and walk away. However, since this is Luann, the socially awkward blonde, you know that is never going to happen.

Bets sure is saying all the right things. Hope Luann doesn’t ruin this for Gunther. I so want him and Bets to become an item!!!!!

Ugh. Go away, Luann. Let Gunther be the Gunther he wants to be…. not the Gunther with a backstory that you expound on here.

They like each other already, Bets (I think its Bettina) likes Gunther’s nice curly red hair, and he compliments her as looking just as beautiful as her picture on the dating site. This is promising because both were honest about who they are, how they look, and what they are interested in. God MD and guys I am SO hoping this ends up in a long-term serious relationship that Gunther desparately needs. Luann’s showing up is fortuitous, but I think it’s a good thing. She gets to see how her silly but sweet session encouraging in a hilarity ensues kind of way Gunther to take a leap of faith (and I think she mentioned how interesting Bets was but MD or others tel me if my memory of that panel is correct) results in something good for her friend, I think her goofiness will be cool with Bets though, and she will end up being a friend, I hope a LOT more for Gunther. By the way I have a feeling that Gnk will draw Les as being a flirter, because that is his nature, but actually being extremely happy for Gunther. GUnther of course will be ready to engage in total war if Les gets anywhere close to this prize.

Luann is probably surprised to see Gunthy with Bets. After all, he DID say that he thought online dating was weird or not normal, or something like that, AND he said he was going to immediately DELETE his profile. So Lu is probably wondering why Gunthie lied.

Having said that, Lu should explain to Bets that Gunthie mentioned he was taking someone named Bets to this Star Trek con, then immediately pretend she sees a friend on the other side of the room and leave. No, she does not need to be there. Gunthie can put his foot in his mouth without any outside help. :D

And you do have ANY idea what would happen if Tiffany walked up on them? (Think Of what happened last year at Kidz First) Tiffany would wedge herself between them and wouldn’t budge, and be fawning all over Gunny.

Have you ALL Forgotten that if it hadn’t been for Luann, Gunther would have never even MET Bets??? So to MY way of thinking, IF things work out between Gunny and Bets, then BOTH will Owe Lu a debt of Thanks!

Which bring Me to this: Gunny is scoring all kinds of points with Bets right now. There’s Nothing like a gentleman offering a chair to a lady. And when was the last time someone complimented Gunther’s Hair? Bets is eating it up. Or IS she? She’s STILL, IMHO, too Good to be True. And She’s coming on to Gunther too Quick and too Strong. Not to mention she got real “territorial/defensive,” when Luann entered the scene. Okay, Sure. It may be NOTHING. But My “Spidey Sense” is starting to tingle.

Let’s HOPE that Bets IS for real and is not running some sort of “game” here. (“Oh Gunny I would LOVE go with you but I need to apply for a loan to pay for my grandmother’s hip replacement, because we’re all out of money! Boo, Hoo!”)

If Bets is a fake, Luann, will SEE right thru her. But if Bets is for real, then I’d say Luann will give “Date Pic Doug” a shot………,

I like where this is going ! PLEASE make this a match for Gunther. They are prefect for each other so far.

This is the second originally comment I usually try not to write even after I have read prior comments, Usually I can just reply to one or two and move on but there is much shade thrown at our named character, Luann, the one who pays the bills I might remind (put Karen through college) that she is portrayed as everything from being a social misantrophe, bound to screw up this apparent chance at Gunther’s happiness to being a jealous harridan who somehow knew just the right time to show up to mess Gunther up, yet AGAIN!! First if Pru had not suggested she get off her butt, resulting in the night at Gunther an Les’s this never would have happened. Fuse belongs to her parents and the characters always go there anyway. It is a happy coincidence I think, and while trying to predict this strip is like betting on the Cubs, Bears, or Blackhawks for this forever Chicagoan, I think that this is exactly what it is; I think Bets will end up in Luannverse, and Luann will be a very good introduction. She is meant to be funny, complicated, but she is sincere, honest, and it’s her world anyway. So back off I say!!

Bets is a real cutie. Luann’s got that “I’m not interested in (fill in the boyfriend) as long as nobody else is” thing. If there’s interest then I am too until I drive it away. Please don’t screw this up for him.

I still say that, face on at least, Bets looks like she walked out of an entirely different comic or graphic novel. I wonder whether Greg is doing a stylistic tribute to a fellow cartoonist.

Wow, this date has barely started and Luann is injecting herself into the conversation. Calling Gunthers date by name. VERY creepy Luann. If Les did this posters would be calling him a creep, loser, etc.

For CRIPES Sakes, will Everybody just RE-LAX? Gunther and Bets will be just fine! And once any and all “misunderstandings” are resolved everybody here is gonna be pals!

What a good plot line needs, some tension

The Luann factor is why I left a post last night saying “Uh – oh”. It was gone this morning, so I guess someone here might have read something different into it and it was removed. Or, as some others have reported, sometimes comments just disappear.

The “Bets” setup was a long arc, and her actual introduction seems far too good for it to go nowhere from this point. So, in Luanniverse, this won’t be (sufficiently) offputting and my current ship of Bunther will proceed. (USS Bunther, NCC-040119)

In the real world, I think PipeTobacco and several others here have it right – this is a time/place for Luann to be scarce rather than abundant.

I wonder how Bets would react if Luann lets it slip that she was the one who put Gunther’s profile up on Date Pic just for some “pretend” fun. See this one where Luann set up his “pretend” account:

In frame 2 -Bets mouth teeth and chin looks exactly like Gunther’s mouth teeth and chin in frame 3. WOW!! Match made in heaven?

“do I know you?” is another way of saying “I don’t recall you were invited”. Bets is a strong personality; she cuts to the chase. I believe she will take care of a situation that if left to Gunther, he would botch. BTW, someone said previously that Luann might be jealous. The word is ‘nosy’. She knows exactly who this is and absolutely did not need to interfere. In fact she is bordering on rude.

Every girl I dated or knew who had big loop earrings also had high libedos…..hope Gunth can handle it.

Gunther’s eyes are on Bets who is the only one reacting to this ‘intrusion’. My guess is that she will take care of the situation. I find it hard to believe that Greg and Karen would create this terrific match for Gunther and then have Luann, who encouraged Gunther to reach out more (… of all people…), come along and ruin it.

Allow Gunther to savor his date with Bets, at least while it seems to be going well. This is not the time for an uninvited Third Wheel!

Thought: These Star Trek costumes should only be made in children’s sizes. Age appropriate.

I predict that Luann has a role to play out here, else she wouldn’t have been introduced. But what, pray tell, is going on in Greg’s fertile mind? Jealousy? Sabotage? Acceptance? The options are broad.

I sense a little bit of confusion above about two Star Trek actresses and their characters. On Star Trek – The Original Series, Janice Rand was the yeoman who had a crush on Captain Kirk. She was played by Grace Lee Whitney. Nurse Christine Chapel had a crush on Spock. She was played by Majel Barrett. Majel was married to Gene Roddenberry, the creator of Star Trek. On Star Trek – The Next Generation, Majel Barrett provided the computer voice. She also played the delightful character Lwaxana Troi, mother of Deanna Troi (Marina Sirtis).

Now THIS is going to get interesting. Pretty good odds Luann is going to get Gunther in some hot water here.
