Fay’s not too shy to envision herself on the stage. And she’s not too shy to mouth an actor’s lines in the audience. But she’s shy about talking to Axel.

Interestingly, many actors report during interviews that they are actually shy people. Playing a role brings them out of themselves and lets them become someone else so they can actually submerge the parts of themselves that they don’t care for under the personality of the character they are playing..

And in just two short strips, Fay goes from being sweet and adorable to obnoxious and overconfident. Good job, Luann!

Better go catch him quick, Fay – he’s with that guy and he’s already got his lips puckered up and ready to go. Looks like the guy is telling him “Forget it, dude, not a chance”

    Jeeze, Luann!

Why RUIN Everything by Encouraging Fay to talk to some Joker That Doesn’t Knows/Cares, She even Exists???

Didn’t YOU “Learn” that Bitter Lesson from YOUR “Aaron Hill Days???”

So, 1 strip left in the arc… I say she either does not talk or fails to get a facial expression.

Then we can go back to being rudely bickering with each other about whether being rude is ok.

Fay shouldn’t be knocking others down to build herself up. She’s involuntarily turning into a bully.

Adolescence is like a pendulum swinging back and forth between insecurity and overconfidence. As we grow older, we don’t swing as far back and forth. Eventually most (some?) of us stop swinging and find maturity.

Maybe….just maybe, Fay isn’t apprehensive because of Axel.  Maybe it’s because she realizes, or heard from Luann, that his friend just happens to be that “Stinky” kid from “Hey Arnold”.  Or maybe she’s just afraid/intimidated by this small screen star, only because she just heard that this guy could be …Stinky….

Lets see if she gets the courage to talk to Axel. I bet he is just as shy as she is, but once the shyness dam breaks they will be fine. I also hope that we get to see Fay and Luann interacting a lot more going forward. It’s great to see Luann in this gentle loving role, she is just like parents, as is Brad. That has great results with people they interact with, LOVE.

While I am glad that Fay is confident “she could have done better” than the actual actor in the play… I still find it unpleasant that in yesterday’s installment it was seemingly “ok” by Luann, Fay, and Axel for Fay to be reciting lines out loud in a voice apparently loud enough to disturb others. I would have liked to have seen Luann show some sort of expression (a grimace perhaps?) to indicate that she was not comfortable with the ruckus that was caused by Fay reciting her lines out-loud… enough to disturb others.

And, again, while Fay’s improvement in confidence is a good thing for her, she may not realize that it is far different being on stage, and ACTING the lines with conviction and with stage movement and directions… so I am glad she “nailed” the text of the part…. but… I would have liked that given Fay’s own challenges with shyness, she would have felt and expressed a bit more empathy towards the actor who played Dorothy.

In terms of Greg’s drawing style today…. I really like how he has drawn Fay with a more upright posture…. it does a very good job of suggesting new found confidence that Fay is feeling about acting. Then he has the more “sloop-shouldered” Fay in silhouette in the last panel…. indicating a continued lack of confidence in speaking to her beloved Axel. Very, very nicely drawn details, Greg!!!

Seriously, I am of the opinion that this Axel character, at present, represents what’s wrong with Fay. Perhaps in future, perhaps even the near future, that would be a different story. But today? Methinks Fay should stay away!

From all the hate posted against Axel, I’d suggest the younger members of our viewing audience take it to heart that a first impression can be very important as to how you will be treated and reacted to in the world. With very very little evidence, many have condemned him to the pits of the undesirable.

Always know your room Fay. You might not want to criticize the actor who remembered the audition time, showed up for rehearsals and handled a special needs brat yelling in the audience while only dropping two lines, directly after the play, unless you want her overhearing you and returning the favor/becoming Fay’s Tiffany. At best, if this gets back to the director, he/she should really consider if he wants to work with a kid who’s being taught to criticize and ruffle cast members feathers (Fay) or a performer he’s worked with before and knows can get herself to auditions and cooperate (the girl playing Glinda). Not impressed Luann.
