Luann doesn’t seem to be playing that hard-to-get, at least she hasn’t said “No” quite yet.

Luann has her arms crossed and that “Really?” look on her face.

Luann actually looks mildly interested – or maybe it’s only mildly dis-interested? – in what Jack has to say. Go for it Luann! It could be fun! You could enjoy yourself in spite of yourself! And it would probably be a good idea for you to go out with someone who probably has no long-term romance potential!

Reading the comments the people call Jack a pervert or dangerous, am I the only one who thinks he is just a normal guy who is more open towards other people? I think Luann and him could be a great couple, Luann often tends to be a bit “boring” in her life, only repeating what she is used to and he could be that kind of a fresh wind. And he tries to involve her in different things, not to forget their interests are pretty similar. Not to speak of Bernice and this other guy, even though they both seem completly different, they are pretty much the same – looking at things just as how they are, always considering the bad side of something before looking at the good side etc.

Uh – Oh. Luann appears to express interest. Tuesday will be a truly ugly day if Trump wins and Luann goes for Jack.

He may look like a jock, but he is into art, quick witted, full of life and he may be nicer than you think. Don’t judge the book by it’s cover. Luann needs to mingle before she picks a steady. Life can be fun if you go with the flow.

If I were Luann, I’d respond to Bernice with, ’Did you say something, mother?" and then ignore her.

@OoDex You aren’t the only one that doesn’t think Jack is a perv. He’s just a guy from her art class that is showing some interest in Luann. I don’t see anything wrong in getting to know him and maybe trying some new activities (rock climbing). It’s college. . . .it’s time to meet new people and do new things.

Seems to me Jack is inviting Luann to go rock climbing, and Bernice is assuming she is included.

Believe it or not, some of us would LOVE to try rock climbing. It’s a new guy, a new idea, and Lu is wisely thinking before accepting or declimbing. (Note the play on word)

Really, what else does she have to do? Getting a little exercise and meeting some gym goers sounds like a nice diversion.

The body language says it all. But, at this point, Nil is not a viable character with one eye and almost no change of expression. That was the tragedy of “Sun”, great potential but poorly drawn….. a squinty-eyed and forever smiling stereo-type.

Bernice, no wonder you have a C in psych. You can’t even get yourself out of a situation you are uncomfortable with by yourself. Leave Luann out of it. Luann is obviously entertaining the idea of going with Jack to the climbing gym. It’s a semi-public place, he makes it sound like fun to try, so why not. My first date with my husband was playing racquetball (we sort of knew each other before hand at work, but still it was a shared interest). Finding common interests is part of dating. Jack is trying to do that, I think. .

Hmmm, is Bernice protecting her friend from an over amorous, presumptuous young jock, or keeping her from possibly having a friendship and possible relationship with a fun person who would be good for her? He is very prepossessing that is for sure. Those who don’t trust him think he is tantamount to a stalker, and dangerous like unfortunately too many athletes have been in college, while those who think he is just a big lug, who means no harm, and might actually have something to offer think the opposite. Bernice is being a good friend, but is she being an “appropriate” friend here? It’s also interesting to see Nil/Emo’s reaction. I think he will be far more ameliorating that might be thought here. IS he good, or is he bad? That is the question.

This guy needs to spend less time with rocks and more time with people.

Maybe he’s the rock wall he wants her to climb.

I like Nil. Speculating a little, he has depth. And he may be having complicated feelings, perhaps even envy of Jack’s easy directness with women. I don’t agree either with some that he is all that similar to Bernice or opposite. I like the accidental pairing of these two. Evanses are pulling me back into the strip.

I’m sure Luann can decide for herself when she has to go to the Ladies Room. Bernice doesn’t need to tell her anything. Luann can decide who she wants to spend time with, Bernice doesn’t need to tell her that either.

To me, Bernice is now stepping outside reasonable boundaries, not because she wants to discuss this w Luann, but from the way she is doing it and her expression. Luann is her friend, not her child, and Luann is not a three year old.

This is getting more interesting in a variety of ways:

1. To me, Luann is starting to show some potential interest for the first time in Jack. To all the “stalker-opinioned folks”… while stalking is horrible and not to be tolerated, I do not read this in any way as stalking. Jack is trying to show sincere interest in Luann, and is trying to be persuasive. Now, he is more persuasive than I (or Nil) would be, but he is still IMO in within a very safe boundary… and hell, to further support this notion… notice how everything he has suggested they do is in a public arena.

2. Bernice’s reaction today…. to me reads as if she is DREADING getting roped into going with Nil anywhere at the moment…. and I think she is logically presuming that if Luann and Jack go rock climbing, then the next idea will be to have Nil and Bernice go with them too. It seems and reads logical to me, because Jack and Nil came in together…. and so did Luann and Bernice. I feel confident that is how Bernice is reading the situation.

Even though Bernice has every right to say no to going with the trio if she really does not want to…. I hope she changes her mind and and at least gives it a try. I think Nil and Bernice could be fun together, and I would like to see the foursome go and have some fun together.

Luann seems to be at least mildly interested in a safe activity with an forthright guy, while Bernice needs to sprint to her “Safe Place”. Stay away, Emo. Bernice is damaged goods.

I’ve wanted to try rock climbing. My kids all do it. But there is no way I am putting my hiney in one of those safety harnesses.

The girls should try it. New interests, broaden your horizons, Girls!

Luann really IS as dumb as she looks….

C’mon, Luann, what would a “Powerhouse Woman” do? Go to the gym with Jack and climb the wall. You might enjoy the experience and his company, and if not, then you won’t have to spend the next several years wondering whether you would have. He’s not proposing marriage, he’s just suggesting something you could do together. If you have fun, then you can take him up on his dog-walking idea. If you don’t have fun, you’ve just wasted an afternoon that in all likelihood you would have wasted anyway.

I’m not sure why people here are so negative on ‘jock-face’ He’s shown himself to be interesting, interested in a nice time and perhaps showing Luann something new to do. He’s actually quite a gentleman with a sense of humor. He may “look” aggressive but hasn’t acted so at all. And he has that pocket dog, which is definitely not a sign of a macho man. In the meantime ‘emo-boy’ and ‘negative nancy’ are pretty compatible, in appearance and in demeanor. They should interact more to find out their mutual interests.

I think that them going rock climbing with Jock and Emo is probably far safer than the two of them jetting off to New York City to face a number of unknowns.

I just hope Greg doesn’t portray Jack as another dumb jock on a football scholarship. Many “student athletes” are given the opportunity to be at these schools because they not only have the talent to play the game but the brains to be a top student as well. Many pro football players are highly intelligent people and have gotten scholarships to colleges like Harvard.So far Jack has shown a lot of quick thinking and to be a quick study. Remember his first days in the art class? Now he’s helping Luann with her art. He rescued her with the artistic statement she was making with the bridesmaids dress.

Jack belongs to the Future Used Car Salesmen of America Club, and Nil makes Gunther look like a local DJ I once knew called Frantic Ernie (RIP). Of course, you folks wouldn’t know Ernie, but the name says it all.

I don’t know why everyone is so hard on Jack here. Yes, he may not be the brightest, but he sees to be treating Luann respectfully, and is asking her out in a normal fashion. I know a lot of girls who love rock climbing. Not every date has to be with perfect gorgeous people, although Jack’s not bad, at least he’s trying. Maybe a regular guy wouldn’t be bad to date.

Bernice has become a real pill. I’m disappointed that Greg hasn’t taken her character in a different direction.
