Bernice: Look at us, Luann! Partying it up at the hottest club in New York city! Luann: Selfie. Man: Ladies! May I see your ID's? Bernice: That was the most exciting 6 minutes of my life! Luann: I am so posting this photo!
The only regret is that I wanted to see Bernice boogie down. :-)Just to see her really loosen up and enjoy herself; have a little bit of an atypical (for her) life experience.
Thank goodness, we didn’t have to suffer through 3 or 4 strips with a poorly drawn celebrity interacting with Lunice – or even worse, a meet-up with Quill (though a meet-up with Quill and his stunning new GF would have been hilarious!!)
Why did Pru send them there? Did she not realize they’d be kicked out? She couldn’t have thought they had, gasp, fake IDs, because of course they don’t. Oh—because this self-indulgent experience was supposed to be good for them, somehow. I bet that’s it.
As for the guy’s hairstyle…. It’s not to my taste either, but the visceral revulsion being expressed by some is more revealing about those individuals than this style choice reveals about the object of their disgust.
@kher – that happened to my stepdaughter. She and a girlfriend took a trip to London by themselves. Went out in the evening….didn’t lock their hotel door and you can guess the rest. Lost their money and their jewelry.
Suddenly everyone saw this coming. Hahaha. A bit anticlimactic though. I agree with other posters that it is odd for Pru to have gotten them in, but they seem to be strangely happy with the result.
I bet that club would let some child star in there. Clubs are notorious for letting underage celebrities hang out but if you don’t have money and/or fame you’re out of luck.
I’ll never understand this “21” thing you guys have down there. At 18 your old enough to get yourself blown to bloody bits in some Bronze Age village but your still not “mature” enough to enjoy a Bloody Caesar at home.
They’ll be in the subway when there is a massive widespread power failure and they’ll be stuck in between stations for about 18 hours. And they could have locked their room and lost everything anyway. The thief may have robbed their “room” (cage) minutes after they left.
Hey, the girls are happy, so let’s everybody be happy they’re happy and having some fun. Don’t really understand why they can’t stay if they aren’t ordering alcoholic drinks but maybe that is the club rule.
Greg Evans wimps out once again, avoiding having to deal with Luann and Bernice being hit on by the lizards in the club (and if Evans was interested in the club visit being the slightest bit “real”, L & B would have been.)`In reality, if there was a “21” age limit, L & B wouldn’t have made it past the front door without being carded, assuming that wasn’t the lineman’s responsibility. Clubs like that have too much at stake to not card anyone looking the slightest bit youngish. As irritating as it might be to get carded, it’s not that good a feeling to be able to “pass the physical” and get waved through. That means you’re not passing for 21, you’re passing for 40.
When I was hangin steel for Ironworkers Local 5 In Washington DC i use to party in a club in Georgetown called “Cabboose” it was a converted theater with 4 balcony’s with a bar on each level. The grils there …….they would kill normal men……
I had given Pru more credit so I figured it was an 18 club but being “most” exclusive I guess I should have figured 21. Now, why aren’t ID’s checked at the door?
Luis has been waiting, figuring they would be turned away.
“Where are you two from?”
“Pitts.”
“Pitts? Do you know Gunther Berger? Do you know Rosa?”
After they reply affirmatively: “Rosa gave me a letter for Gunther, but the office had lost his address. I carry it with me in case anyone from Pitts enters my cab!”
Meanwhile, Tiffany figures that she is finally making progress with Gunther.
The other two things i could imagine are Bernice introducing Luann to silent films and buying some to share w Piro, or the two teens returning home. I suspect Luann found the right wedding gift for Brad and Tony in a museum gift shop.
Bernice will loosen up around Piro. She needs stimulation from someone, she wont just do it herself
too bad they didn’t let them stay, i’m sure they didn’t care for a drink. here in NYC must clubs are 18 to party, 21 to drink. I guess Greg wanted them to get busted.
Um: it was Pru’s idea. So, her idea of fun is sending Luann and Bernice to a club they’d get kicked out of, you’re saying. I’m not surprised Luann and Bernice enjoyed that—they’re, um….not so bright.
Pru knows they are both under 21. So she intentionally sent them to a club they couldn’t get into. Shouldn’t they check IDs before they let them in the club.
Just like you’re saying my argument falls flat doesn’t mean that it does. Get over yourself, for a change. It doesn’t make sense that this scenario happened, but it’s typical of the Luannverse. I think that’s why I enjoy reading it.
“At home” are the key words in your post. It’s one thing if you’re drinking at home — but quite another if you’re at a club or a bar, .This makes good sense in terms of the highway safety factor.
“… they’re going to be kidnapped.”“… they’ll get raped.”“… they’ll get robbed.”etc., etc., etc.
All of you clueless posters who make these suggestions have forgotten that this strip was created by (and still drawn by) Greg Evans, who would never put Luann in any really dangerous situation. And we’re told that Greg’s daughter Karen is the primary writer for the strip now … and she is Luann, so do you think she’s going to create those storylines?
Tell you what: You want stories like that, go take some classes in drawing, create your own comic strip however you want to, then get back to us on how well received it is when you try to get it published. (Or take the shortcut and just ask Tatsuya Ishida.)
In any event, your posts indicate you have no real knowledge of how this strip operates and probably have no business commenting on it.
This is has to be so much fun for them. I remember when I went to New York with a friend at that age. Actually there was some quirk in the municipal or state law that let us 18 or 19 year olds go to a couple of jazz clubs and actually order drinks as long as we stayed in the back or something. Something weird. The biggest thing I remember was seeing some big names in jazz doing sets. It’s been 51 years since we did that so I can’t remember the names, but I have to admit New York rocked. Everyone should go there when they are young and have an adventure.
6Interesting outcome and realistic to boot. Yet, I am still a little take aback with the “Peanuts” style of upturned face Bernie has in the last panel. To me it feels jarringly different from Greg’s typically clean, precise style.

Well, that was fun. Time to go back to the hotel via another yet long subway ride for some real shut-eye (and shut-mouth).

How could they get on the list if they didnt h ave to prove their age first?

I called this a week ago… well, ok they weren’t arrested for underage drinking, but, I was right about the rest
Partyalldatyme about 7 years ago
So what if they only got six minutes? They act as though they’re thoroughly satisfied. Pru probably gauged their anticipated reactions accurately.

At the start of the nightclub arc, I wondered if I had missed them turning 21. Now I know I didn’t. How could Pru miss knowing they were underage?
