Looks like Delta would be afraid to let go of the reins for even a day. So a relationship doesn’t appear likely – unless someone shows up who really has her number. We can only hope.

I find Delta’s attitude simply sad. I mean I admire her that she has plans and intends to stay focused on them. But to basically not even factor a/any relationship into the mix?!? That’s a fast ticket to loneliness.

I said that Delta definitely has a personality. This emerging side is something I’m not sure I like. She’s going to regret sacrificing relationships for ambitions in any case. Most people, if they’re not applying for world dictator or something equivalent, eventually do.Yesterday’s quip by Delta: a classic case of suppressing her value judgment, which (if she’s as much of a theorist by temperament as I now suspect) is hard enough for her to access anyway.

Greg’s already done a story about Luann stealing a guy Delta was interested in and I don’t think he has the guts to have her come out despite her denial. This storyline is probably a way to write Delta out of the strip due to creative having nothing for her.

I wasn’t addressing any of Palin’s qualifications or intellectual shortcomings, any more than I addressed Clinton’s, but comparing their political ambitions and achievements with Delta’s plans. .I’m not going out of my way to either bash or promote either party or either woman, merely pointing out that if all people can think of when they see Delta is Condoleeza Rice, then sadly, all they’re really seeing is her skin color.

You seem a bit touchy this morning..As I recall, the reference to Condoleezza Rice is because yesterday Delta said “I don’t have time [for dating]” and “I don’t have time for fun” and likening this to Rice who has a great career but (apparently) no love interest..There is nothing remotely racist in this comparison.

For someone who’s always seemed so environmentally and socially conscious, she’s beginning to sound a little out of touch with humanity. Yes, a career can be rewarding, but her attitude, and the last thing she says, tells me that she’s not interested in having anyone to snuggle up with at night. You can’t exactly snuggle up to Bills to pass through Congress.

Sorry. Greg is sending a dangerous message here. It’s OK for teenage girls (everyone, really) to be single. It’s way better than being in a dysfunctional relationship and it’s easier for a teenage girl to learn who she is when she doesn’t have a boyfriend. Of course, I’m pretty sure teenage girls don’t actually read this comic anyway.

Politics aside, for the ones who are talking about Delta not wanting a relationship, that’s better than what most high schoolers want. I’d much rather have an ambitious high schooler than one who only wants a relationship and to get pregnant (yes, that happens a lot). The relationship will come when she is in college or the working/real world and she finds someone with the same dreams and intellect that she has. Good for her!

People are not only being racist, but terribly sexist. If this were Gunther talking, would anyone be saying anything about how “sad” they thought his plans were to become CEO, senator and president, and how they thought he’d be “missing out on relationships”?

It might come as a huge shock but there’s more to life than being in a relationship, and in fact being in a relationship leads people to make horrible choices: they have children when they’re not prepared, they pick their college based on where their boyfriend or girlfriend is going and not where they’d be successful, etc.

I can’t believe I have to say this about a comic strip character but Delta is in high school, and girls in high school shouldn’t be in serious relationships in the first place, much less worrying about how NOT being in one is going to affect their career path. MUCH LESS worrying about whether being a successful, educated woman in a position of power is “sad” and “lonely”! In fact, no woman should ever be worrying about that at any age, nor deciding that being an achiever is a bad thing. Giving me an f-ing break! What is this, 1890? But that’s in real life. Delta is not a real person.

Pastors don’t want to send you to hell… I dunno what kind of preaching you have heard but it sounds highly strange lol. Besides even if they wanted to no one person has the power to send another to heaven or hell except yourself so I guess you can walk away from anyone TRYING to “send you to hell” and know you are the person in charge of your own fate, so it doesn’t matter anyway.

Maybe, maybe not. It may reflect like the distorted mirrors in an amusement park fun house — or — damn near drag you down into depression like Funky Winkerbean. I prefer a strip that simply reflects the imagination of the creator, whatever that may be.

Leviticus, thanks for your essay. Actually I’ve got a great book at home (recommended by a friend) that I’ll look up at recommend to you in turn. Something like “The Hard Questions of Christianity”. Author states that he believes the “brimstone & fire” is a metaphor for a God-less existence, that hell is a place of one’s own choosing.I like the way Mr Evans started this by having Luann more subtly ask Delta if she was gay (as opposed to the Gunth episode) and is developing it as a Career vs Relationship theme. May be because of the current “revelation” that women CANNOT be both 100% at work and 100% at home. And no, a life without physical romance is NOT lonely & meaningless— we are not animals.

I thought of her first also, for three reasons….She’s already demonstrated intelligence, so has to be a Republican!

You immediately went to Rice because you want her as pres (which she appears to have no interest in), and discounted Albright and Clinton because they are “both Democrats, and because of that hold little to no interest” and you accuse me of being focussed on race? .As for your last sentence, post a picture of Sarah Palin with that line under it and see how many people keep a straight face. I tried to keep my remarks neutral, but if you really want to beat the drum for your team in partisan politics, you’ll reap what you sow.

Sack of Rabid Weasels said,“a story about Luann stealing a guy Delta was interested in”-I know it’s a common expression, but you really can’t steal a guy. (And not just because nobody ever tried to steal me, either.) Dadgum Thirteenth Amendment gets in the way. You might win their attention and affection, but if they aren’t committed, nobody really has them.

RobinLea said@Leviticus “Pastors don’t want to send you to hell…”-I do recall one preacher calling on the Lord to do just that, but agree most are trying to save those they believe are on their way there unless they repent of sins. Well, most unless you count the ones who are sidetracked into social programs because they don’t really believe spiritual ones exist or are important.-I’m not sure the title pastor should apply, though, since they aren’t tending the sheep by feeding them the word.

“@Leviticus Soon they discover that while I believe in Christ, I do not agree with all the burn in hell and damnation philosophies.”-You say you believe in the man but not what he taught. You can see how that might confuse them. (It might even make you a heretic in some faiths since claiming to be a member without accepting the doctrine is not the same as honestly admitting not believing. That’s between you and your guru.)-Just because someone believes you are headed there, doesn’t mean he wants you to suffer. For an analogy, consider a doctor who believes you have a painful, fatal disease. Just because he tells you what he believes doesn’t mean he wishes it were so or that he doesn’t wish he could do something about it or cure it or get you to do what would save you from that pain.

Adrian Snare said, “The TSA an agency caused by government overreaction to the criminal activities of man”-Formation of the agency was not an overreaction, but a reasonable response to the knowledge that some dedicated groups were using civilian aircraft as terrorist tools. Maybe they overreact, me not know, but existing is reasonable.-Besides if it weren’t for them, somebody would never get the pleasure.

legionbuck43 said, “Sorry, Delta , but the current Buttclown in Chief has made sure a black will NOT get elected to President for the next 60 years !”-Only if you disapprove of what he has done (which I assume you do) and lay that disapproval on all blacks (which you also seem to do). If people approve or aren’t excessively racist, a good person of any type could be president.-I believe President Obama is a good man even if he and I disagree on whether or not he should have increased our presence in Afghanistan. I disagree with some of his economic beliefs, but I could be wrong. -Time will tell

The TSA are full of jerks who have do SO MANY stupid things over the years that I’m actually scared to fly anymore, and it’s been YEARS since I’ve been on a plane; I mean, they’ve traumatized grandparents, parents, little kids, and people with disabilities with their stupid searches. They’ve also pissed off our troops more then once, too. One time, our soldiers were getting on a plane to return home and one of the TSA agents told a soldier that he couldn’t take on a small pair of nail clippers since they could be used as a weapon; the soldier pointed out that he has his rifle with him and its a weapon, and the agent had the nerve to say that it didn’t have any ammo. The soldier was annoyed since he could’ve easily smashed the butt of his rifle into the jerk’s face.

“There are leaders of different congregations that cannot be together because each states the other is leading his people into damnation because they misread the Bible or, my favorite, the Devil had blinded them with his lies.”-Of course not. If they agreed on doctrines, they would be members of the same church.- “It has been said more than once that the Bible can be used to prove anything you want“-The real problem is that it can’t be used to prove anything. Nobody argues whether a board is three feet long or four feet long. They measure it. Nobody can do that with theological matters, therefore they argue and never settle the debate.-“ From what preachers tell me, a person can spend their life doing evil. – - – a day before their execution they tell some preacher, “I believe in Christ,” and they will live in Heaven for all time.”-And some believe it. Others believe people sometimes lie and what they say may not be what they mean.-“ If this is how judgment really is, then something is drastically wrong.”-Which is to say, you reject it. And since you reject it, what Christ taught does not bode well — IF what Christ taught was true and IF it was reported accurately and IF the people who passed down the teachings did so accurately.-Still, I don’t know any pastors who think THEY are the ones who determine your fate or wish you ill. I think they’re just telling you what they fear in hopes you will avoid it.-Since you don’t believe they’re right, you better hope they’re wrong.
