Wait… I still wana to know more about that paper on the corner of Ann’s desk near the start of this story arc? Perhaps it was a notice of her bonus from H.Q. A bonus, I might add, she will never get again without the aid of her forsaken rainmaker.

Look’s like the ‘59-Second Employee’ is winning over the ‘1-Minute Manager’ (these are actually books).

Perhaps wealthy TJ is employing shills to purchase weenies when he is working?

Judging from the large number of comments posted here each day, it would seem that Evans has developed a nice storyline.

So it wasn’t Brad’s tally sheet. So TJ took more orders than anyone else at WW. Showed her how little she knows about people. She couldn’t push Toni around. She couldn’t make Brad tell Toni to go away. She couldn’t tell TJ what to call her or to come running at her beck and call. Yep – Ann is losing it!
littlesky over 12 years ago
Ok, so my imagination says that ann eiffel will be begging tj to come back and make her look good. Then she can get transferred somewhere she wants to go. Cause she sure doesn’t wan to to be here in this strip.
Chuck373 over 12 years ago
TJ finally had a plan that utilized his major personality traits. He’s a smart-alec, pain in the butt. Ann, will not put up with his “demands”, but he doesn’t care. He’s having fun.

Mr. Bill the Butcher claims to be an author yet can’t tell the difference between a novel and a comic strip.

Oh, and Toni? Here’s YOUR chance to “Thank” TJ for getting Brad fired at Weenie World awhile back: Go to Ann and threaten to POUND her again if she doesn’t make Ole Smiley Assistant 3rd Shift Manager!

Hmm. I’d just suggest, guys, that you not count your chickens before they’re hatched, not laugh at Annie’s defeat until the war (not just one battle) is over. She is not that easy a target….

Vegasgirl over 12 years ago
Most of you would be amazed at how easy it is to get someone who, for example, orders a vodka/tonic to go from a $6 drink to a $11 drink by simply suggesting a higher shelf brand. Bill? I think we’d all hope you’d be more considerate of a “fellow author.” Tsk!
Frogman_tg over 12 years ago
There are always those who will gripe and complain about one strip or another. If the storyline is so “stupid” or “idiotic” why don’t you simply stop reading it. I know if I don’t care for something like that I won’t keep trying to tell all the loyal followers how “bad” the line is but rather I’d read somthing else. I personally invite you to do just that. Go TJ, you rock! Oh, and keep rooting for Big Nate as well!

If only it were this easy. My Dad had a job once, selling advertising space. He came up with a way of, if not actually doubling sales, increasing them significantly. It got results. It also got him fired, because it wasn’t the boss’ way, and the boss’ ego would not let things be done any way but his own.Interestingly, the boss’ name was ‘King.’ Guess it took it literally.
Chris Wysong over 12 years ago
As response to Bill the Butcher, Greg did not have Ann stating that TJ doubled the sales for the entire store (although TJ does restate that his goal was to do so). Ann states that TJ’s “take” (assuming this means sales) is twice anyone else’s. This requires no suspension of belief. It is quite possible and as such, very likely that TJ has doubled up everyone else in “take” (sales).

Actually, simply being nice and pleasant is a huge factor. I work retail, and always try to smile and use friendly words to keep the customer comfortable. I don’t know how many people I’ve convinced to buy a little something extra or not put something back. My register totals are pretty good, and I get a lot of Thank Yous for being friendly. And I’m not really fake-y either, I love laughing and being friendly, so it’s just not hard for me.

(Back a few days) Greg left out a few strips that explain Teflon Joker’s techniques. Doesn’t take too much imagination to fill in the holes. Joker yuks up the new customer who orders a hot dog, asks you want kraut or chili with that, and cheese? What’s your drink – bottomless? You want fries with that – supersized? Then he places the order and says it will be ready in a moment and turns to the next person and repeats the suggestions with variations – joking as he goes. Meanwhile the other clerks are robotic in taking the orders just as they are stated. Waits to take the next order until the previous one is delivered. Any doubt whose technique was more attractive – whose line do you want to be in?
Vilyehm over 12 years ago
TJ does not need the income from Weenie World.TJ’s sales are double that of the other counter people.Ann has not noticed that TJ is SERVING twice as many in line.Ann has not noticed an increase in PURCHASING.
Conclusion:
TJ is buying Weenie World credit cards, which, he has noticed, are fully refundable if not activated within 30 days.
Last two days of story line:
1. Ann fires TJ for the last time.2. Everybody, even Elwood and Shannon, are in line to get refunds.
Logical. Funny. Not a chance of my being right.

TJ’s (probable) schtick of being friendly, efficient and quick with his orders is spot on. I get so tired of ordering what I want, only to hear, “Ya want fries with that?” or “d’ya want to supersize that?” If I had wanted either, I would have said so. Robotic morons behind the counter, in many cases. Can’t wait for TJ to drop the other shoe on Ann Awful! Hope it is a size 17.
Chuck373 over 12 years ago
I’m wondering if TJ can go too far with this. Most bosses would simply fire TJ. But TJ is playing this to the max. And Ann is his mark. She always watches not to cross the line from the boss side, but with TJ pushing – who knows?

Being on automatic is part of it, no doubt. However, at many places you are required to ask certain questions or risk being written up or possibly fired. Many companies have ‘secret shoppers’ that track exactly what you suggest to a customer and if you miss an item when you are waiting on them- even if they have stated previously that they do not want it- it counts against you.

I have one more idea about that paper on Ann’s desk corner and the one she was reading when she gave T.J. the knife. It was H.Q. telling her to improve sales up… or else! And there she is giving the boot to her savior.

I meant to say, the lines of customers. Added volume adds time to each transaction too. And if he’s doubled the volume, no doubt the grill man and his assistant doing the assembly must have been much busier than normal.

technically TJ could double the sales of “whole store” if he trains all employees……………… so next time they see each other, either Ann would be forced to accept that she can’t have TJ at WW as his demands are TOO HIGH or ……… she ends up convincing TJ to stay as her Assistant manager and withdraw the “ridiculous demands he listed”

I agree with you Bill the butcher. This is getting ridiculous. Time TJ learns the world doesn’t revolve around him.
mojitobaby over 12 years ago
Uh, “right” is sorta subjective – at the end of the “Brad gets rehired” arc there were a lot of really disappointed people who thought the easy-out ending was a cheat, and there was a lot of discussion, So if you’re racking up “right” points purely in terms of thumbs up, you’d be looking at Stephan Pastis’s backside a great deal of the time. The site is full of longtime readers, newbies and trolls who know that devoted fans will bite on their stupid bait,so you do the math. .The latter, btw, don’t give a damn about the strip OR the writer, just how much controversy they can generate and how many comments they can rack up.

TJ’s register sales were higher than the others because he is a master con—I mean sales—man. I have a son who could sell snow to igloo dwellers.

I can describe TJ’s scheme in one word, “Brilliant!” I bet Ann Eiffel never imagined that she would ever meet someone as manipulative and unscrupulous as herself.

Not “feeding” includes never identifying (by name) those who wish to incite and otherwise aggragate others. **************************************************** I’ll be watching Monday to see if Greg continues showing this or picks up one of the other incomplete arcs. I know many of you want him to work harder and have spin-offs, but I have accepted that this way we never know WHO will be the focus du jour.

Spigotman: I think you have some useful points regarding ISBN. However, I see two problems with it as an absolute criterion: 1. There is a lot of junk with an ISBN that I wouldn’t claim had any authorship; and 2. What about essayists, poets, and such whose works, unless republished in collections, lack the 50 page minimum to qualify for an ISBN?
Incidentally, give me about ten minutes for research and I think I can get you the ISBNs of most of my published authorship, although ISSNs would require too much time to bother. In fact, I think the list would be too boring to bother for the books as well. Suffice to say they include Scribner’s, Scarecrow, and my own publishing operation, Hippogriff Publications (thus my aka), plus innumerable magazine and newspaper articles and columns. Does that make me an author? My income tax form says “retired”, though I don’t believe it.
Airman over 12 years ago
Okay, time for some fun. I think Tiffany should do a spread in Playboy. (Although Ann would really be better) Elwood could make the contacts.
