I always had a short ladder that said: “Don’t stand above this step.”

Playing favorites is not illegal. Hiring relatives is not illegal. Except in government and it must be disclosed in publicly-held companies. Failure to disclose: Under Sarbanes-Oxley the SEC can be called in to investigate allegations of undisclosed conflicts. So the comic is true in that it’s really easier in the long run.

I lost my job after everyone hired after me was fired due to the son of the companies owner being appointed head of a major department and alienating all the clients. This he did by sending a letter saying the company was going to become “leaner and meaner”.

He was good in the programming department because if he could not crash the program or make it produce wrong outputs, it was good to go. He had a talent for breaking things.
