Interesting interview on this topic with Brett McGurk this on NPR’s Morning Edition today. Is MS Benson’s stalwart wall of blind fealty to OL’ Punkinhead developing a few cracks of enlightenment, finally?
What’s the matter Lisa? You wanted this, didn’t you? This is your guy, isn’t he? Have you finally learned the old lesson that when you lie down with dogs you’re liable to wake up with fleas?
Washington is soooooo perverse on this whole thing:“On Monday, perhaps not coincidentally, Haley tweeted this: “We must always have the backs of our allies if we expect them to have our back. The Kurds were instrumental in our successful fight against ISIS in Syria. Leaving them to die is a big mistake. #TurkeyIsNotOurFriend.”
Turkey is not our friend? That’s a surprise to those of us who’ve been paying attention because it was barely a year ago that official Washington — I mean, everybody — was outraged. They were savaging the president for the crime of undermining NATO.
The Atlantic, in one example, ran this headline: “Trump’s Biggest Gift to Putin is Questioning NATO.” Just questioning NATO was totally forbidden. It was a sin. And people like Nikki Haley strongly agreed with that.
But here’s the weird thing: The Kurds aren’t part of NATO because there is no Kurdistan. Turkey is part of NATO. They’re one of our fabled NATO allies. That means we’re bound by treaty to defend the Turks if they are attacked."
What’s the budget for the U.S. military presence in Syria? Trump figures that if he can bring all those troops home, he can use any money left over to erect a few more miles of the “Wall”. Now do you understand?
Another sad incident in the Swamp Creature’s chapter of American HIstory. When the US stands on the field of battle in need of allies, should we be surprised to find ourselves standing alone?

Erdogan only had to flatter him by saying he had “great and unmatched wisdom,” all it took… just like at every cabinet meeting

He’s only concerned about his twin tower hotel in Istanbul. Erdogan probably told him he’d knock it down if he didn’t get out of the way.

The new Trump Tower in Istanbul opened the other day, Ivanka thanked the President of Turkey for showing up, then Trump abandoned the Kurds.
