Apple made it available on PBS for free.
LIO SPOKE?! AGAIN!?
Wow, I am glad that PBS is carrying these Peanuts specials now. It was a bit tone deaf for Apple to block everyone from viewing “The Great Pumpkin” unless you had an account or signed up for a free trial where they made you input a lot of personal data…..
Kodi is the answer!
Glad i bought dvds of all the classic holiday specials years ago
I have the Christmas one, the others are derivative and don’t interest me.
I used to have it on DVD or was it VHS. This is what happens when we expect everything to be stored by someone else. sigh.
It bothers me that someone who isn’t Charles Schulz’s heir and has no connection to him at all now “owns” his characters. Creative works should go to public domain after one generation.
Feh, I already have it on MP4 :D :D :D
BAD Capitalism! Bring on the Socialism!
“Rats” is a Peanuts reference, I don’t consider it a violation of Lio speaking rules…
Only time there was actually speech bubbles. And Lio saying something.
The traditional “apologies to Schulz” line seems to be missing- but then maybe Tatulli’s not the one who should be apologizing.
Brilliant. So tired of great works being held for ransom…bring on the public domain.
These peanuts specials used to be on CBS, and then ABC bought the rights. And then Apple was able to buy them. My guess is CBS sold them when the ratings started to get low, And this year ABC was going to stop broadcasting them because the rating were really low.
So Apple stepped in and bought the rights and kept showing them. Rather than Apple buying your precious childhood memories, it seems to me that Apple saved them. Otherwise they were going to go to Netflix or some other streaming service that wouldn’t make them free at all.
I bought the DVD’s years ago so I’m all set.
As opposed to the previous method, where, unless you use an antenna, it wasn’t “free” since you had to pay for your cable/satellite service
Cue the sad trombone.
When this was last brought up on Lio, I joked that Frosty will really have to bring home the bacon this year to make up for the loss of Charlie Brown. When CBS did show Frosty the Snowman, it was backed with Frosty Returns. That newer special was clearly drawn in the style of Lee Mendelson and with real child voice actors. It was the closest the networks could come to a Peanuts special this time around.
Apple gets 2 lumps of coal this Christmas.
I hate this fracturing of theTV/Movie industry. We’ve got Netflix, Hulu, Amazon, Apple, etc. I think I’ll just go back to reading books.
OMG! Lio speaks!!!!
Here is how you can watch the Peanuts specials for free during certain times, without having to get an Apple account.
Bummer. Good thing we have the dvd
Good Grief! :)
First “My stomach hurts,” now this. Still waiting for “Good grief” and “I can’t stand it.”
Don’t buy into Apple’s capitalism of a seasonal favorite. A Charlie Brown Christmas is public domain on Archive.org – https://archive.org/details/ACharlieBrownChristmasTVMovie19651080pHD
You can also find all the Charlie Brown specials on YouTube as well. Just sucks for those that only have an antenna and no cable or WiFi. : (
Lio speaks for the second time in a comic strip!
Apple will probably sue.
Thankfully, Apple TV reached an agreement with the Public Broadcasting System (PBS) and “Charlie Brown Christmas” can be also seen on PBS stations (check local listings). You can also find the DVD of Charlie Brown Christmas fairly easily. I think it’s on Peanuts specials of the 60’s. While “Charlie Brown Thanksgiving” could be found on “Peanuts specials of the 70’s”.
Tis the season for lack of reason…
There must be some mistake. Mark Tatulli doesn’t like capitalism but some evil capitalist is charging money for his books on Amazon.
Think someone should tell him?
Sort of like the Animaniacs reboot’s only being on Hulu :^(
ok, when was the last time Lio spoke in a strip?
Yep, money grubbing assholes just like Disney +
I’ve said it before and I’ll say it again. GOOD GRIEF!!!
This is the first time ive seen lio say anything
He speaks! It’s as if Henry or The Little King, Harpo Marx or Marcel Marceau had a line to say. (I’d have added Teller the magician, but he had many lines on The Big Bang Theory). This is momentous, thus must be important.
That’s the first time he has ever talked
