My bet, when the smoke clears the AG will be the next governor. He confessed before he was outed and did a good job at being contrite.

So you believe that an insulting joke carries the same weight as a sexual assault? Racism is a problem but an apology and an effort to correct the behavior should be sufficient. Assault implies taking advantage of a position of power to influence or force another’s behavior. I don’t see that here.We need to make people aware of their error but to force this kind of chaos implies my vote didn’t really count? Really??

This whole thing has turned into a dumpster fire of PC BS gone amuck. This is on the level of a Shakespearean farce. Nobody should have to resign for doing one stupid thing back in college that was not considered nearly as unacceptable then as it is now. Nor should the LG be forced out based on allegations of sexual assault unless further evidence comes to light. That being said, I hope they all resign and then they discover that the speaker called the meter maid a bitch for ticketing his car as he was running to feed the meter in 1979, so he too has to resign. I’m not sure where the line of succession goes from there in VA but I hope the nonsense continues until there are so many resignations that Willy the statehouse janitor becomes governor of VA.

No nations even needed to hack those elections to mess them up.

I find it interesting that the huge tumult follows a media-frenzy by an extreme right wing media outlet with ties to the Republican Party. If they manage the character assassination of the top three Democrats in the state of Virginia, a Republican picks up the political spoils. SOP of the new Repignant Party. The swamp is oozing into more areas of the US under the “leadership” of the Swamp Thing residing in the White House.

VA is two states; the northeastern part is more liberal democratic, the southern rim and west is far right republican, and a lot of farms. It’ll be interesting to see how they like the screwing over the farm industry is getting from the GOP.

I started to snark all over this issue, but it’s actually serious, so OK, lets be serious.

It’s patently obvious to anyone without their head in the sand that the GOP (state or overall, doesn’t matter, doesn’t even matter if it’s a big donor doing it for plausible deniability) has hired investigators to go over every imaginable detail of the top Democrats in the state, looking for any hint of anything that makes these guys unpalatable to Democrats. This dug up data is being used in an attempt to reverse the results of the governor’s race, after the fact.

Given that no reporter nor any person “vetting” the candidates found any of this BEFORE the election was concluded, a major effort must have been made AFTER the election to find this stuff. Thus, it’s obvious it went above and beyond the usual “dirt search”.

Therefore, two factors come into play.

First: Are we really going to allow every election to be rerun after the fact by people digging up or manufacturing dirt? Especially given cases of “he said she said” with no second persons or corroboration whatsoever? This is a serious question, and for damn sure if this happens in Virginia, it’s going to happen in other states. Hell, it’s being done to Warren right this minute!

Either we need to do one hell of a better effort on vetting, or we need to decide that “after the election” crap doesn’t count until the next election. Or throw it all over, give the country to the Repubs, and quit pretending to be serious about politics.

Second: There’s a HUGE asssumption being made here, that I object to in the most strenous way imaginable. We are ASSUMING that any random Republican in the line is pure, just because they haven’t had the Department of Dirty Tricks spend a few hundred thousand examining their backgrounds!

Really, if that’s how the Democratic Party is going to do business, we need to just give up. If we’re ASSUMING the Republicans are better people than Democrats, what’s the point?

Strange that the Republicans HATE “Racists” when they are Democrats, but they LOVE Republican Racists, like Crazy Joe Arpio, Steve King, Cindy Hyde-Smith, and others.

I am rapidly becoming of the opinion that this matter needs to be decided by the voter’s of Virginia. If they feel there needs to be a change from the man they voted into office then let them decide that. If they think their choice is fine then the rest of us should remove our selves from the situation.

What I want to know isn’t what a politician did in college 30+ years ago; it is how they have conducted themselves in the last few years. Many people did stupid, thoughtless stuff when young and maybe intoxicated. They are probably very ashamed of their actions. If they have shown themselves to be good people now, it is time for us to forgive their past transgressions. Is there anyone who hasn’t ever made a stupid mistake?

To the best of my knowledge, he did NOT wear the hood, but admitted to the tasteless, ignorant blackface. Anybody who wants credibility really needs to understand the considerable between the two.

Fairfax should take the seat and let the court case be taken after. And he may counter sue not just the woman but the internet site that did this on purpose to get rid of him using the Democrat’s zero tolerance without even a hearing. A method which stinks.

All major issues of concern re: a candidate for ANY office should be evaluated, thrashed out, voted upon and definitely decided upon prior to any public ststaements about their status in an up-coming election.
