The people of Hong Kong had – what 20 years? – to see this coming. The ones there now weren’t concerned enough to emigrate to Vancouver, Malaya, or one of the other ex-pat Chinese communities or they were too young.
So what is justice today? It certainly is not what the people who called them “wogs” or who imprisoned them on Angel Island and passed laws making it illegal to lock their doors so the cops couldn’t walk in unannounced (I have seen this in the Fresno Bee newspaper morgue with my own eyes) are trying to stuff down their throats – as they once did opium.
Currently the median house price in the outer sunset is 1.45 million bucks. You can eat good on that, pal.
It may not be surprising that it’s happening but previous administrations would be trying to keep China from crushing the movement. The current one has no interest in human rights and has lost all of America’s credibility on the issue as well as quite a few others. “Join the fight against terrorism…so we can throw you under the bus later. Help stop climate change…while we pull out of the Paris Accords. Keep communism at bay…while our president cozies up to Putin and plans on going to the May Day parade. We have to stop corruption…while our president extorts bribes from the Ukraine.”
I have no evidence and have seen no evidence in media — but I deeply suspect this is all a setup planned by the mainland Chinese government to justify, to the world, complete and violent takeover of Hong Kong.
This is an editorial cartoon from the London economist. If you are Chinese….
Study Question #1: If you aren’t an “old boy” from Harrow or Eton or if you can’t cough up one million pounds to the Tory party, do you have a chinamen’s chance of getting residency in Britain’s green and brexit land?
Study Question #2: Suppose you went to live in any city in the midlands of England. If you sent your child to a local school, how many days until he/she got the cookies beaten out of them?
Special bonus question: Do the owners of the economist give a flying flamingo about the people of Hong Kong or do they just want to pretend that England isn’t running down the Brexit hole with the white rabbit?
I’ve been thinking this since the hooraw first showed up on my news feed.
