My problem with the NFL is how many second chances these thugs are given. I am a lifelong Browns fan, and it is embarrassing that my team always has at least one idiot per year land in jail. These people are given the greatest opportunity – to play a game for a living. But from high school they are taught they a better than those around them. High school coaches and administrators bend rules to keep exceptional players on the field, colleges waive academic requirements, and after years of cheating their way through the system, some rookies are given millions of dollars before even suiting up. I don’t want to see the NFL disappear, but these guys have been given passes all through life. If they want to blow it by getting arrested for assault/murder/DUI/drugs/dogfighting/rape/etc., don’t give them another chance. Ban them for life. Make them an example, and maybe it will stop. I’m sure every one of the 27 who have been arrested this year believe that eventually everything will be forgiven and they’ll be back on the field this fall. It’s time they were treated like the rest of us, and realize that a stupid decision has consequences.
